I miss the Wario Land series. Will it ever return?

I heard nintendo was going to bring it back whenever you stop seething lmao

>> No.8416165

That depends, are you going to buy it?
If not, then no. You can just replay the game's over and over again and help expand wario-likes for indie developers.

It will return as long as you keep emailing and pestering Nintendo of Japan using Wario to describe your reactions.

>> No.8416323

It will return if the usual Wario developers feel like making a new one. They might actually prefer working on WarioWare.

The latest Warioware has a good deal of minigames obviously on a grid, which makes very very hopeful they intend to do something. Especially when Lulu, the little girl with Wario eyebrows, controls like a platformer character with a ground slam, but I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up.

Nintendo views it as a failure I'm pretty sure. 4 games isn't a terrible run though.

>> No.8417993

>>8416978
It sells more then the average WarioWare and more then many Mario spinoffs (Like Mario vs Donkey Kong or Mario Golf) so highly unlikely it was ever seen as a "failure".

This >>8416323 is more likely, since R&D1's disbandment there is no one passionate and advocating for it anymore (which is why Wario Land Shake It was outsourced), it's yet another platformer that Nintendo already has a ton of already, Wario Land was prominent when 2D Mario was dead but now that New Super Mario Bros exploded less reason to bring it back, and WarioWare is probably much cheaper and it usually shows off the system's hardware gimmick. I vastly prefer Wario Land, but Nintendo sticking with WarioWare makes much more sense to me.

>Mercurysteam
Weird fucking fit for the cartoony Wario series. I haven't played the new Metroid but their games including Samus Returns are dull cinematic spectacle shit with absolutely no style, Wario needs the opposite. Why not Retro Studios? Because they don't exist anymore? I'd rather the Goemon leftover people (Good Feel) get another go at it and make it a little less milquetoast than Shake it. It wasn't terrible or anything but there's a couple things that drag it down, I fucking wish it had been as zany and varied as the SNES Goemon games, a Wario game with that sense of adventure and irreverence would have been fucking perfect. In fact I'm bummed Nintendo pigeonholed them into those gimmicky Kirby/Yoshi games. Again they're not terrible but they lack the energy the old Goemon games had. Meh.

Next Level games would be the most likely Nintendo 2nd party to get it right if you ask me.

>>8416229
Lmao I don't know, maybe this is a way to get more Wariowares. Wario is hardly niche, but his actual games are. Still this could be the most realistic way to make this more likely.

>> No.8419339

Nintendo is phasing out pure 2D platformers, Odyssey was a smash hit and they're more confident that people can competently play 3D games.

>Mario Maker put 2D Mario in the hands of fans
>Kirby now shifting to 3D
>Yoshi's recent game has 3D elements
>DK rumored to be shifting to 3D
>Metroid is a special case due to its adventure elements, though Dread may very well have been a swansong

Stage-based 2D platformers are seen as old hat now, the execs don't think they will sell.

It's possible, but Wario always had crude humor and strangely curved things (Hen having breasts/ass and the Cactus in that one Wario land 4 mini-game being curvaceous) so it's possible it would be safe.

The issue with Virtual Boy Wario land getting a remake is that they would butcher it's artstyle. Do not want.

All they've had to do is to port original game to 3DS. The idea literally was in the air.
Too bad Nintendo doesn't care about their underperformed projects, which is not only Virtual Boy but also Wario Land series itself.

Honestly not sure how to feel about Wario Land as a whole. They're good (for handheld games), but it feels like they never "got" a defining moment of completeness of their own, in the same way that mainline Mario did. Similar to the Mario Land games, Wario Land is weird and atonal in the presentation. I would've quite liked to see how an EAD Wario would've turned out.

I love WL3 and 4, and 2 of course. But yeah I wonder how 4 might have turned out if they had kept the invincibilty and made it more exploration-based like the previous two games, having Wario travel back to the same levels to unlock more content/progression etc.

>WarioWare sells better
This is not true. pre-GIT WarioWare as a series has less games that sold a million then those that do. This is the opposite of Wario Land which has more million sellers then not. The first WW was a major sales drop after Wario Land 4, and WarioWare Touched barely sold more then WL4 despite it releasing on a console that had double the install base (Nintendo DS) compared to the Gameboy Advance.

>The last Wario Land game bombed even with a huge budget and promotion
Graphics, animations and anime cutscenes were beautiful but unfortunately from gameplay aspect it was disappointing and lacked the variety and originality of the older games. Also the shaking controls gimmick gets old quickly. Super Mario Galaxy took better advance of Wii's controller.
