The most fun I had was to take out the batteries and put them back in to trigger that sort of sprite sheet where it displayed all the graphics at once. That was pretty damn fun, actually.

Back in the day I felt that the Game Boy was an obviously superior device. Nowadays that's still pretty true, but I can better appreciate LCD games now. Might just be due to nostalgia, or due to most of my recent play of them being entirely on PC simulations. They're probably not all that great even today.

I think there was a Super Off Road one, that was actually somewhat playable. The Ninja Gaiden one was entertaining for a few minutes too.

I played the shit out of my Double Dragon one. Man I'm old as shit.

I remember watching Nightmare on Elm Street part 6 and some kid was playing Ninja Gaiden on one of these

I did beg for a Game Boy like all kids. Funny thing is I never actually got one. I ended up getting a Game Gear for Christmas though and couldn't have been happier with it except for the battery life thing.

I had some older LCD games where you could actually move around the screen; some of those were pretty cool. By the time my younger siblings started getting these games as presents they were all the Tiger ones where your character is basically nailed to one spot on the screen and poorly-simulated scrolling replaces movement.

In retrospect, I guess that was a symptom of the times. Older LCD games tried to simulate one-screen atari-ish games and were somewhat successful, later eighties LCD tried to simulate more sidescrollers and mostly failed.

Tiger Electronics? No. I had a Game Boy by the time I started discovering them, and they were all kind of samey and uninspired.

Meanwhile, some of the games in the Game & Watch series were surprisingly solid for the most part.
Game Boy wrecks them all though.

I had one I liked.

I forget the name of it now though.

They could use an emulator and a rompack.

First "video game" I ever owned...Pretty sure I got bored of it pretty quick, though.

Is there any way to emulate these?

I had Simon's Quest, Gauntlet, Star Trek TNG, and Double Dragon. Even at the time they were pretty bad but I remember finishing the Star Trek one and being kind of impressed that it had an end.

It was Batman.

I remember playing it a lot in the car, but I don't remember much about it other than that. Would be interesting to play it again, just for kicks.

My mom gave this to me as a present when I was like 9 or 10, I loved it. Funnily enough, I already had a GameBoy by then, if I recall correctly, but I still craved one of these, there was something alluring about them.

They were kinda fun when I was a kid. I mostly enjoyed playing them before my dad finally acquiesced to letting me get a Super Nintendo. I think that the problem with them was that, once you beat them, you never felt any real motivation to go back and play them again.

I had Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Batman Returns, and a couple of others. The Jurassic Park one was fun, but I was kind of disappointed by the lack of ability to attack. You just had to avoid the dinosaurs while running for the gate.

The most fun one I ever played, and I'm not sure if it was even a Tiger game or not, was one where you played as a caveman. It had four levels. Each level added a new dinosaur or new hazard to deal with. And each level had a tyrannosaurus for a boss. The first one was just a tyrannosaurus. The second one was the same, but with a volcano exploding in the background for added danger. The third could breath fire. And the fourth could breath fire and had a volcano going off in the background. You struck enemies with a club and could perform a jumping attack as well.

It's the most variety I ever saw in that type of handheld game. And since dinosaurs were my thing anyway, that game was really up my alley.

Unfortunately, I left it on a picnic table at my grandmother's house and it got rained on. That was the end of that.

I always asked for a video game system and my parents kept buying me them. They're nostalgic even though they were shitty.
My favorite was the Lion King one.

The memories just came back. I had a Power Ranger one that read cards you swiped through the top. The cards would be for whoever you played as. My mom couldn't afford a gameboy but I was content with that. I took such good care of it. Then one time when my mom was working a twelve the dog got out of it's kennel, chewed through the door to my room, and ate it and all the cards.

I don't recall playing it, but I think there were actually multiple playable characters because they kinda swapped out hair for a few of the characters with similar bodies, like Ken, Ryu, and Guile. I think.

I actually liked those Tiger LCD games even though there usually wasn't much to them. I had a Game Boy. But I'd still ask my mom for these from time to time. I'm not sure if I could play them anymore though.

It was however, awfully pink and girly-looking. That's no good.

The Mega Man 2 one actually looked pretty cool, it had all the Robot Masters and Dr. WIly.
