idk, I just enjoyed this one more, love the lighthearted tone, love seeing the characters back, love the gullwings and hanging around the ship, sphere hunting/dresses, the team rocket style Leblanc syndicate, the music (that's painfully underrated), the combat of course, the jpop thing with yuna and lenne, peak outrun 2 rikku, new goth babe/proto lightning, Paine, fighting vegnagun, etc, idk it was all very different and interesting playing a game after saving the world, it all clicked with me.
I know it's not everyone's cup. FFX is still excellent, but my fav is X-2.

Niji no Silkroad on the Famicom is an obscure one. It has an English translation. You're a middle-eastern prince who has to reclaim the throne, but you don't get a party of heroes to help you. There's no leveling up either, and instead you have to get stronger by buying better equipment. This requires a lot of money, which you can get by trading goods between different towns and which are priced by means of a simple supply/demand system. You can also hire mercenaries to join your party.

Well, since PS2 is now considered retro I would have to go with Final Fantasy 12. Not a huge fan of rpgs though. There's a few modern ones I won't talk about here that I like much more. Haven't replayed the older ones since I was a kid, so I'm not going to say I even like them. I might not anymore.

In their defence they didn't really do the devs dirty, the team went way over time and over budget and they let them until they couldn't let then anymore and had to move assets to other, bigger games. They went ham on the story, locations, all the different sprites for NPC's, animations, etc... and couldn't finish it because even with the simpler style they went way overboard and were way too ambitious for a single game.

X-2 is strictly for fat weeb coomers. That was its literal target audience. Should have been a separate final fantasy without FFX attached to it. It’s so incredibly stupid narratively and the combat system is multiple steps below its predecessor.

FFX on the other hand is the peak of final fantasy with the most immersive and realized world. I would say that’s the most memorable RPG I’ve played and I’ve been playing them since ‘97.

It's a top-down adventure game. Acquiring new items so you can progress through the game isn't the same as leveling up. Also, most items in a Zelda title can do some damage to almost any enemy, whereas, in an RPG, quite a few weapons or spells are completely ineffective against some foes.
