Legends 2 was written before MMZ, supposedly Model X being a portable database of X's documentation would've fixed it. All we know is that Geetz in DASH 2 goes "So the best Hunter has finally gone Maverick" and in the flashbacks him and Sera are salty the Master hangs out with "such an old robot", and about Trigger being the only one with true free will while everyone (Mothers, Servitons, Juno) else is tied to the System.

X is dead and retired to Cyberspace, but it's not too farfetched they could've given Model X a body of his own as he holds the ideals of the original. Plus Vent and Aile being intentionally designed to resemble Volnutt.

>> No.8404309

>>8404164
Legends' strange connections with the X series go too far sometimes for the sake of continuity. It's X's mind who makes him who he is, not the schematics (which was replicated in, well, Reploids). If Volnutt really was X he would definitely recall everything he's seen up to that point in the far future of Legends. In fact it'd be far more fitting for him to be Rock.

Although let us not forget, Reploids are not 1:1 to X, they always had flaws which led to the first wave of Mavericks on top of the virus broadcasted from an ancient computer.

That said, Master Thomas in the cliffhanger for ZXA does claim "what do you think happened to the ORIGINAL Reploid Data", I always wondered if he was alluding to the fact he had obtained X's documentation, either from Dr. Light's notes, or Ciel's own notes when she created Copy X, the only reploid to be 1:1 to X.

>I always wondered if he was alluding to the fact he had obtained X's documentation
If that translation is 1:1 then he's most likely referencing Dr. Cain's original Reploid schematics. Stuff that led to the creation of Sigma. It's stressed a few times that, while Reploids are copies of X, X himself is not a Reploid, as he is not replicated from anyone. X remains unanalyzable after all, and I don't think Cain ever let anyone touch Light's notes after he found them.

The character designs were done by Tsukasa Kotobuki. I met him at a convention almost twenty years ago, he signed a few items of mine, and gave everybody a free character sketch of their choice. Really nice guy, though I've since lost (was stolen) his artbook that he signed and drew Lime in for me.

>> No.8404963

>>8404948
However, according to MMZ's backstory both in the Japanese Rockman Zero Collection website (the DS one) by Inti Creates, and Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works, Ciel was the first person who was able to fully understand Dr. Light's documentation and create a 1:1 replica of X. They even explain her genius as her being a designer's baby experimented on as an embryo by his Great Grandmother (Dr. Weil's co-worker in charge of analyzing the Virus and Zero's cognitive program, the woman responsible for the Mother Elf). The government clearly still had by Zero notes on everything, even their computer screens in Area X-2 identify Omega as "Dr. W No. Infinity" although very pixelated. Ciel went missing/probably died when Serpent went Maverick due to Model W, so probably her documentation became lost until Thomas found them.
As for X, I agree with you, neither X nor Zero are reploids, but they keep calling themselves as such, and story-wise X doesn't even know of his origins until after X1. IIRC the japanese books say he was awoken when reploid society was already more or less formed. Only Sigma knew of X's origin as the source (since supposedly Sigma was the first Reploid Cain created according to the Japanese canon).

Mega Man lore is fun.

Funny enough, Inti recycled the "designers baby" plot in Gunvolt to explain Joule's existence and why they could force into her the Muse/Cyber Diva septima on her.

Like I said, Kotobuki signed a couple of things for me, including a SMJ cel of Cherry, and a free sketch of Cherry to go with it, both of which I still have. Tomino also signed a Char's Counterattack movie poster which I still have as well. I really need to get these things properly framed.

Copy X was a perfect hardware copy, yes, but the project was ultimately a failure, not too different from Cain's endeavors, hence why it's X's consciousness that really makes him non-replicable in the end.
>japanese books say he was awoken when reploid society was already more or less formed
That's an interesting detail that I haven't seen a decision on. You or at least I think it was you suggested that Cain presented multiple technological breakthroughs to the world by studying X and translating some of his functions into different applications as to make the government more amiable and open to reintroducing robotics after the ban, but wasn't X's capsule sealed with no way of even studying his design while he was in there? His awakening was long overdue, too.

>> No.8405103

>>8405007
I've been posting way too much Mega Man lore ever since I got ahold scans of various books like Chou Hyakka, so it might've been me back on June or August. I've been on a 'tism binge.

The books don't explain this but given the bullshit analysis technology in the Mega Man series (an Operator being capable of remote analyzing from her desk's computer without an specified method to performing such analysis), it's not exactly imposible for Cain to have X's capsule in his laboratory and study X without the need to opening him yet (or awakening him, whichever the case)

The novel Irregular Report goes a bit further on detail but that's dubious canon because, as fascinating of a book it is, it also contradicts a few things (it presents Alpha as a first reploid created by Cain, while in the Japanese games' lore, it was Sigma who was the first to be created).

That said, Capcom Japan sent Taicom some stuff on Sigma before he went Maverick for X DiVE. Now, X DiVE being made by Taicom has it's fair share of contradictions to the core series, but it's interesting non-Maverick Sigma is presented as the politest guy ever.

Sigma being the first reploid sounds a bit off-beat, given his extremely high combat rating and specifications in comparison to other Hunters. I think him being the last of Cain's reploids makes more sense, especially since the Maverick Hunters didn't exist until Reploids started going Maverick, so Sigma would've likely turned Maverick before Cain created the Hunters. Did Taicom reveal any extra lore on the series?

Taicom has done nothing but contradictions, so don't regard them much. It's just they happened to at least show us how Sigma might've been like before he became the de facto host of the virus (assuming the Virus didn't completely overwrite and replace the true Sigma after X1)

I agree with your assessment, but from what I've read various Japanese sources (the Japanese translation of Cain's diary, X7's manual, assorted guidebooks) call Sigma Cain's "first Reploid". Not Number one reploid, but Cain's first. So make of that what you will.

It's a bit of a shame, though, because I always assumed the reason the virus bonded with Sigma of all people was because of the X1 US manual saying Sigma had the most advanced electronic brain of all reploids, unable to go Maverick.

>> No.8405171

>>8405151
Maybe he made Sigma first, but kept him unfinished and went off to work on other reploids before coming back and completing Sigma with better know-how from other reploid testbeds. Thus making Sigma his first creation and his last completed project at the same time. I still like the idea that Sigma had the most success with the virus due to already being sick and tired of killing his own robotic siblings because of human error. Most other reploids just suffer and act hesitantly when infected, but Sigma just embraced it when it suddenly allowed him to break free from his limited freedom.

>> No.8405190

>>8405171
It is completely possible Sigma was the first reploid to be fed up with being a second class citizen and the virus helped whatever programmed restraint to cease. The virus changes a reploid's disposition and brings the worst out of them (because Zero was already created evil, it had the opposite effect on him, though).

Dr. Firefly and Dr. Jim supposedly were peaceful scientists but once infected they turned violent, with Firefly using that violence in search of forbidden knowledge. Of course in-universe, the government keeps pushing the narrative Reploids can't oppose humans on their own, that if any reploid says otherwise (like Repliforce) said reploid is malfunctioning and must be put down. Weil in his youth resented this lie, it's why he decided to use the Mother Elf to control all reploid population, echoing what the head director of the RIT told a young Thomas Light, "robots are just tools, nothing more".

Yep, him. Remember though, the virus brings out the worst on Reploids like Sigma, he already shows frustration that no one can analyze X nor Zero and wants to be the first. Gate has the same, coupled with resentment that his creations are killed because "lesser scientists" couldn't fully analyze Gate's designs, but they let X and Zero roam about freely.

And add Axl to the mix. All we know is that Red found him in a capsule somewhere, and later Axl served as a template for next-gen reploids, but other than that his past is unknown (although Axl frankly doesn't seem to care either).

Oh yes, I don't know that I'm fully over it, and it happened a couple of years ago. I had a number of things stolen from me, from a storage unit I was renting at the time. A WWII German bayonet, a bowie knife given to me by my grandfather, the detached head of a Swiss halberd. They stole a few pricey airsoft guns as well; an M249 SAW, a fully custom-built H&K M4D (that cost about two grand), an M4 Commando... I don't even play airsoft anymore, but the guns would have looked cool hanging on my wall. Speaking off, they took all my anime wallscrolls too, about two dozen different ones, that I could have used to cover bare sections of wall.

The Turn A cel was a really good one too, the titular Gundam spinning the hammer in front of it, a perfect hero shot. It wasn't even the only Gundam cel stolen from me, I had a great bust shot of Garma Zabi that Tomino went crazy over when he saw it. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was a repro, as there's no way I would be able to find--nevermind afford--the real thing. The bitch of it is, the thieves probably sold them for a pittance, if not just threw them out, as they likely had no idea what they were.

If I ever find out who did it, I want to cut off their hands like they do to thieves in Saudi Arabia. Will never happen though, even the police didn't investigate it. I shared the unit with my sisters who lost some things too, I know all their collectible holiday Barbie dolls were taken. I took all my stuff out of storage, most of which is sitting in a closet because I really don't have the space for it. Lots of Japanese toys; Soul of Chogokins, other older or high-end figures, a tremendous amount of MSiAs, and bins full of anime and movie DVDs.

That's life I suppose. Shit happens, and you just have to accept it and move on.

Included photo is the aforementioned Cherry cel and sketch. Also pictured is a Zelgadis production sketch signed by the voice actor, Hikaru Midorikawa.

I would also be out for blood but that's not as recommended

I've spent far too long and far too much collecting what I thought was the very best relating to my interests. I still have a lot of it, and even more of the less-than-stellar stuff (like nearly every Gundam action figure released in the US back when Toys 'R Us still existed), but the theft of some of my better things stings me in a way I still have some trouble getting over. I wouldn't have minded so much if the replaceable stuff was stolen, I don't think I would have replaced it anyway given the chance. It's the irreplaceable that burns, the things that I associate with unique and special events in my life. The things I know I would always appreciate no matter my age or changing passions. I remember those things fondly, as my memories are what I have left.

I could go into further detail, of the more sentimental and mundane things I no longer have, such as a nice leather briefcase belonging to my father that he gave me a long time ago. Keeping it /vr/, a case of old PC CD-ROM games, like the MechWarrior games, the Quake games, Warcraft RTS games, Dark Forces, Elder Scrolls, Rainbow Six, Descent, Tribes, and more. All gone, yet I still have most of the manuals. Thankfully, I have my DOOM and Diablo CDs, they were in a different bin. I have most of the aforementioned games in digital format now, but the physical discs were nice to have. The multiplayer heyday of many of them is long done anyway. I should've kept my old Win '95 Pentium system for retro gaming, I left it behind in my parent's house before they moved and it got tossed.

I still have my Pogs though, whoopie-fucking-do, I didn't lose or have stolen the fucking Pogs. Of all the things to still have, I can only shake my head at the goddamn Pogs. Actually, I do have OJ Simpson murder trial Pogs. No really, Pogs with cartoon illustrations of OJ, Judge Ito, the lawyers, the murder weapon... the '90s were a weird time.

Apparently the storage facility isn't responsible for lost or stolen items. I had no idea, I was floored by this policy honestly. I felt like that one episode of 'South Park' when Kyle didn't read the fine print. He ended up eating shit too.

I live in a safe and quiet neighborhood now, I'm not so worried about any future theft, as it was never my home that was broken into. Fuck public storage, fuck them with a spiked demon dick. Thinking back, I should've frequented yard sales and flea markets, it's possible I could have found my things, even if I couldn't prove the seller was the original thief.

It's given me some perspective, more or less forced upon me, that I a) own far too much and that ownership is largely overrated, and b) shouldn't feel too strongly about mere _things_. Things have a way of owning you if you care too much. I have a large collection of boardgames, a hobby that's waned in interest for me, that I simply can't seem to get rid of. I'd like to musical chairs the boardgames into the bins containing the nicer toys and other items I would like to display, but it's a lot of work moving it all around. I have organized a personal library after buying a large seven-foot bookcase to shelve all my classic literature, pulpy science-fiction, roleplaying games, anime artbooks from the '80s and '90s, and so on. I need to invest in yet more shelving for the many DVDs I own; display the good shit, sell the other shit. Such a pain in the ass.

Fuck me, I'm blogging on 4chan, and apologies to anyone who couldn't give a shit, but I appreciate having a reminiscing dialogue about the value--and drawbacks--of nostalgia. Maybe there's a lesson everyone could learn from all this. Priorities or something.

Honestly, these sort of discussions are really nice and a breath of fresh air from the usual shitposting of "what did they meant by this" or "znezz" or "super castlvania bros" or "genesisn't".

Your posts makes me with /ar/ existed.

Mega man lore threads will one day overrun this board and I don’t think that’s a bad thing

Good. Mega Man is the most /vr/ franchise that there ever was.

We've been having these conversations everywhere lately which might be a bit rude to other people's threads. Megaman is a testament as to why lore is so important in a game.

Anon, I'm replying just to unironically praise you. Just for your brief consideration of politeness and rudeness, you're, at least, a step above the average shitflinger /vr/ user. Glad to have you around.

What if Axl was created by Dr. Cossack... But NOT Mikhail Cossack?
Dr. Kalinka Cossac! In Xover she's smart enough to create something close enough to X in base specs at age 15 (probably not on AI, I think OVER-1 is in the same level as Rock)

how?

But what would her motivation be? Her dad probably gave up on robotics after Wily ruined his reputation and Kalinka's life was in danger because of it. Maybe something that would protect them both in the future? What about the suffering circuit?

Cossack actually kept his career as he was a victim of circumstances and patched up his friendship with Thomas Light. He created Beat and the Mega Buster MK-II as a good will gesture as well as working as Mega Man's navigator in Complete Works Rockman 5's Navi Mode.

I can't answer that, it's all just hypothetical, although for what is worth, in Rockman X6, Ground Scaravich mentions finding others/other things like X and Zero before Alia shot him. X6 and X7 have the same director, for what it's worth.

Amidst the chaos of endless CRT and Doom generals, endless debates if it’s retro or not, bait posts and Australia-kun, the Mega Man lore chads stand undefeated.

I believe one day we'll get a Legends 3 somehow and learn of the Shadow Government the Maverick Hunters became once Elysium, the System and the Class division happened.
