Which do you consider the better game? Personally I like both equally.

>> No.8394046

I don't like thief but by the titles alone the metal age sounds cooler than the dark project

>> No.8394196

Thief 2. I prefer the consistency, increased focus on stealth, and more grounded level design.

Ironic, considering Thief 1 is considerably more consistent in quality and doesn't drop in the last portion of the game unlike T2.

>> No.8395224

Thief 1 has less stealth, but better levels.

Honestly hard to choose, both of the final missions are pretty eh, the first few missions of TDP are 10/10 same for thief 2.
Honestly I just go the DOOM1-2 route and treat them as the same game, the level design is up and down in both and both have mod support.
If you hold a gun to my head though id say 2 just because of Shipping and Receiving

It doesn't have less stealth though, every undead/monster mission has stealth and they have actual loot requirements unlike half of T2's missions.

I like them both equally. But Thief 2's antagonist, his actions and his freaking voice (lol) are more iconic than the trickster/Constantine.

>> No.8395498

1 got multiple missions I don't like, 2 got two missions in a row using the same map, and the last level is pretty trash. On average I prefer 2, but 1's highs are very high as well. So I'm not going to choose, eat shit and dicks, OP.

Personally I dislike both equally, and all Looking Glass games

>the last level is pretty trash
Soulforge is everything that a final level should be.
It's long and difficult gauntlet, but there are no surprises. Every challenge that you face is something that you have been prepared for, as long as you played the rest of the game as intended.
Pro tip: Frogbeasts are a semi-effective way of destroying combat bots. The explosive damage triggered by death + splash damage of the robot's grenades is enough to take them out

I don't like 'em because I'm always sold the lie that they're stealth games, and they're not. Stealth is a secondary thing in these games, these are exploration games where the main focus is looting, and I don't like looting, and I dislike that many portions of the levels are hidden behind higher difficulty settings, which in turn makes the looting requirements even higher. And there you are, spending 30 minutes making a sense of the hastily drawn map, backtracking areas to find the missing piece of loot, solving puzzles... and the last thing of importance is stealth. These are stealth games the same way JRPGs are RPGs, just because they have some numbers and leveling, or like considering GTA a shooter. 3 times I've started with Thief 1 and I always stop playing midway, because I don't want an exploration game, I want a stealth game.

When TLGS made T1, they weren't sure if people would be fond of the pure stealth stuff so they added a bunch of tomb raider stages inbetween.
Try T2. That one's all about heists and shit. If you don't like that then I guess go back to your zoomer Hitman's and Batman Arkham Asylum's

>> No.8396734

Thief 1 is better. More memorable levels, better story, better characters, more soulful colorful art style, more focus on actually finding/stealing loot, infinitely more variety in mission gameplay than 2. Bonehoard is the best level in the series.

2 is fine but it's overrated as fuck by plebs with no taste that got filtered by the supernatural horror elements of 1. Half of 2's levels are comparatively much lower quality, a few of them are even rehashes of other levels that already exist within 1 and even 2 itself. Mechanists and robots is much more meh than Hammers and zombies.

The loot system is one of the most frequent complaints about both games, but it does seem necessary to an extent to have a reason to explore and have some pilfering besides just getting the major macguffins at the end of levels. How would you improve it?

>> No.8396740

>>8396548
The game is called Thief and you sneak around while thieving things. Sounds to me like the game is exactly what it's billed as.

>> No.8396828

>>8393935
Probably Thief 2. I like the maps better. The story is about equal in both games. Thief 2 is more consistently detailed too.
But it's not like I have to choose. They're both great.

What? By who? Newfags 20 years later trying to play something just because it's famous?

I'm an autist who has said this before but I thought it diminished map optimization as a mechanic somewhat at least on expert, instead of being rewarded for devising an efficient/safe path to the major objectives you kind of just resign yourself to going through every single obstacle in a given level for all the trinkets you'll need to have at the end.
