Aren't half their torrents b0rked when they're generated? I certainly read enough complaints about them not working here and elsewhere. Apparently amending an archival record is such a pain in the ass many uploaders simply upload the modified file as a duplicate, while otherwise renaming or hiding the old. You trying to tell me that ain't clunky as hell? Their community forum is also like something out of the late 90s, which might not be so bad, but I've yet to see anywhere they publish takedown requests, so if an item gets hit with a DMCA you can only guess from whom and for what reason (invalid or contested notices obviously don't matter). This has bit me in the ass at least once when I attempted to use the Wayback Machine and discovered the URLs in question had been "excluded". Why? Who the fuck knows! It could be anything from a DMCA to an actual personal removal request, and you'd never know the circumstances either way because that shit just disappears.

They have an exemption that covers "legacy software" only. Everything else, such as books, newer games or film is subject to arbitrary reasons.

Whether or not you download the full thing, it's superior to download them directly from the No-Intro set than getting them from retarded ROM sites that deserve to be shut down for refusing to properly label the ROMs or update the catalog with proper dumps.

Because they're not actually a romsite, the Archive's main function is to preserve the old web through the Wayback Machine so you can still access dead sites from 20+ years ago. The media collections are there for the same reason physical libraries maintain CD and DVD collections when the primary directive is compiling books, and the only reason people use the Archive for games at all is because of Emuparadise faking death.

Some of this lot would have shit the bed trying to download stuff through IRC, or even fucking kazaa. I miss the days of going into IRC rooms and just seeing what other people were querying.
