They were thinking "Why not try a different formula since more of the same is the lazy way out? We think our fans will appreciate the effort" but turned out that fans actually wanted more of the same, forever, and that very moment, that was when Nintendo was ruined. In an alternate universe people are playing original Nintendo games instead of the same rehashed formulas all the time.
