So my mom got one of these off Groupon

had a Genesis as a kid so its a nice nostalgic thing for me

anyone have experience with these kinds of things?

>> No.835658

/vr/ will tell you that the sound quality is the worst of all Genesis models, but I'm sure that it's fine if you aren't a 'purist'.

legitimate people use this?
I always thought it was a scam personally

would you care to explain way?

Looks pretty cool. How are the controllers?

Not typically worth it, given that it's incompatible with the Mega EverDrive.

I just saw they are wireless. Jesus christ

awful. made of cheap plastic that feels like it could fall apart at anytime. also have to keep them pointed exactly at the sensor or they don't work at all. luckily it has ports for regular controllers.

its kinda hit and miss

so I played a bit of Streets of Rage 2 (that was loaded on it) just now as well as Virtua Fighter 2 ( there was a genesis version? what the fuck?)

what>>835658
I did notice the sound quality being worse than >>835708 since I also have that as well, but it doesnt make the games unenjoyable

>>835705
was right about how cheap the controller feels although I like the buttons the dpad I aint enjoying and yeah it is annoying that you generally have to point the controller toward the sensor

and I tried to put in an old cartridge of Jurassic Park and it wouldnt fit, which is a bummer but should have seen coming with that asterisk

I would say that >>835708 is the better deal and experience but since my sister isnt as vidya savy as me i think she would like this for the novelty of it

>> No.836191

I own the one in OP's pic.

To put it short, it's decent for just playing the games, but garbage in every other category. The controllers are one of the worst things I've ever played with, the game selection leaves a lot to be desired, although they have some gems in there, half the games are awful homebrew that are just various puzzle games with MS Paint graphics, it's supposed to be able to play cartridges, but it has an extremely limited list that it can actually play, and overall, the sound quality of the games is off enough to make it feel wrong.

I got mine for $30 and I still regret spending that much money on it. I wish I had just bought an actual genesis instead.

Genesis version of VF2 is widely thought to be the worst of the entire VF series. It needs to stay dead so everyone can forget it and history can bury it.

I didn't even know it was a thing if it wasnt for this

HELL WHY WAS IT EVEN MADE, ITS LIKE THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT VIRTUA FIGHTER IS!!!

you should have, it would have cost around the same

>> No.836276

The Genesis is my jam, and I love collecting for it. So, I had to buy one. The price point of fifty bucks made me uncomfortable, because a genesis can be had for 25-30 bucks with games. It also takes a death-grip on your carts, and in my experience it doesn't work well with ANY EA game, and I haven't really tested very many off it. I understand it doesn't play a whole lot. If I were buying a clone console, I'd much rather buy a Retron 3. The games list is decent, I've seen a lot better genesis collections... but for what it is, the average person could find enjoyment out of this product. Plain and simple, this is a nostalgia box for people who don't really care about collecting. It's a nice little novelty, but it's over-all very cheap and reproduces sound poorly with just some horrible controllers. That's the part that gets me, the genesis has the best d-pad out of any system in my opinion.

>also have to keep them pointed exactly at the sensor or they don't work at all.
dear lord, reminds me of 90s attempts at wireless keyboards and mice, sounds horrible, why would they use such an out dated system in this day and age, I don't imagine the modern sensors that work on radio frequencies rather than IR beams (which is what it sounds like those are using) are very expensive...

>> No.837187

Another Genesis collection? Everyday, I feel more right thinking that the genesis is the whore of video games.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a Sega Genesis console? Why the fuck would I play homebrew when I could be playing Sega Genesis games?

What? It's supposed to be a retro console. Keeps it authentic.
