Are there any good options if I want a joystick that can easily switch between 8-direction and 4-direction gates? The stick I used to use could switch if you opened it up with a screwdriver, and my current stick is only 8-directional with no option to switch. I want to get a new pad for playing mame from my PC, what's my best options? Preferably something that I can just throw into a retail horii pad and Japanese parts only because I don't want to import. I need to be able to adjust it easily without opening up the pad.

Get a real stick instead of some chinkshity toy?

Servostik can do that.

My current stick is a Seimitsu. It is a real stick, retard. But if I want to change gates I have to open up the housing of the u it entirely, remove some screws, rotate the gate (or in the case of my current one, replace the gate), then close everything back up. It's a pain.

Thanks. Have you used this stick? Is it any good? Would you go with that stick or would you prefer two different controllers with different sticks in them?

What games do you need 4-way so badly for? Pac-Man?

Yeah I enjoy a lot of the older games that use 4way sticks. I actually prefer them over the later stuff but I enjoy both.

I never actually used a servostik, but I have two ultrastiks, a spinner and a trackball by the same manufacturer (not to mention the usb keyboard encoder) and everything is of very good quality. The software is nice, too. Works very nice in combinaison with rocket launcher to change profiles on a per-game basis.
Servostik has some good reviews. Just remember to buy a control interface if you choose this solution, otherwise it's manual rotation only.

I'm not familiar with using sticks or its hardware, whats the problem with using 8way sticks on those old titles?

the one i bought years ago could do it if you spun something on the bottom, sanwa or something i think?

Ya know how some old games suck to play with a joystick and you need a dpad to play it properly? It's similar to that.

Yeah, some arcade controllers will let you change between 8-way and 4-way with the press of a button
