Hello /vr/,

Ever since this imageboard was created, I've been trying to build a sizeable netplay community with whom to play the various co-op and multiplayer games old console emulation has to offer.

In an effort to create a community surrounding online multiplayer games, I've made this thread to advertise our IRC channel

#/vr/_Netplay
http://www.rizon.net/chat

where a couple of us hang out, chat, help each other out with netplay issues and ocassionally arrange game sessions for things like Mario Party 2 or Bomberman '94. We're pretty chill there, and open to trying any game.

You're welcome to stop by and check us out. Feel free to idle, chat or play to your heart's content.

The various guides you need to set everything up can be found here:

I'm personally not looking at anything specific to play at the moment, but suggestions are welcome here and in our IRC channel.

And to show /vr/ my love for vidya, I'll be making various magazine dumps over the course of the next few days (weeks?) to bump the thread with.

Starting with The Official Nintendo Player's Guide from 1987.

To turn them into guides with nice typefaces and imagery that helps the reader to engage with the text.

Here's an old example. It's weird, but people prefer to read large texts like this.

It's mostly geared towards console emulation, I'm afraid.

There are a couple of online matchmaking services where you can find people to play with (the old version, I mean), like GameRanger.

I'm up for it, even though I'm nowhere near as good for competitive play. But as I said in the OP, we're open to play whatever.

Sorry for flaking out of uploading the guide. We kinda got together to play some Dungeon Explorer, and we set out to finish the entire thing in one sitting. That took us about 4 hours of constant deaths.

It was all worth it in the end. I can die happy knowing that I played 5-player Dungeon Explorer, one of my childhood dreams.

Also, nickf104, if you're reading this: sorry for not playing Mario Party 2 with you. I know I promised you we would after finishing, but the game went on longer than what I anticipated it would. Hope you see this so we can get together tomorrow and play as originally planned.

Anyways, back to dumping.

Believe it or not, in one house there is a slime, just like the normal enemy. You can't attack him, but if you use B in front of him you can talk to him just like townsfolk. All he ever says is "zzz" unless you talk to him 4 times, at which point he tells you how to find somebody. I think there was a townsperson who told you to do that, but it was pretty cryptic in wording. Honestly I think they did 4 times on purpose, since in my experience most games (including literally every other Zelda 2 character) have 1-3 lines of dialog, so by the time you got to this character, you were thoroughly conditioned to expect nothing meaningful from him since he just kept going "zzz" all the time.

Looked it up again, you're right. I had it confused with maze island.

Also according to this pic death mountain is actually just west of central hyrule, with the entirety of the first game taking place in southern hyrule and Zelda 2 occurring primarily in north/northeast hyrule. Of course it also looks like an artist was just told to combine the two game worlds cohesively.
