hey /vr/os

is there any interesting but often overlook PS2 games? I want to play something new on my PS2 but all I got from googling is either play MGS3 &2, GoW, FF and shit. If possible, can you all drop a webm gameplay of the obscure game?

If you're looking for something to play and never considered them before, play a fucken wrestling game you mark. Here Comes the Pain is honestly one of the best games on the console. Even if you hate fake sports just think of it as a weird fighting game with silly characters. Totally worth your time, I promise.

Warship Gunner 2- A naval combat game where you design your own ships and have a ton of customization options. It's sort of like a naval Armored Core.

Growlanser 2- A tactical RPG with a plotline that branches heavily depending on your choices and actions, and a pretty wide variety of mission objectives. It suffers from balance issues, but so does practically every other game in the genre.

Urban Reign- A 3D brawler with much more depth than is readily apparent. It's no Godhand, but it's still a lot of fun once get a good grasp on the mechanics.

Both of those games have a 60hz switch before loading. Tiny local Euro publishers localizing Japanese PS2 budget titles with zero market appeal were giving more fucks about PAL gamers' experience than the entire gaming industries of USA and Japan combined. Only Sega and SNK were mostly reliable to have a 60hz in Europe on PS2 among the big name publishers.

You have to manage your fuel, follow the mission waypoints and make sure you don't missile spam as you have a very limited amount of them. No automatic landing too, so carrier based missions are pretty tense.

just start the first level and holy shit i dont know if its my OEM dualshock 2, but the camera and walk control is shit. camera control is too sensitive and the walk control is inconsistent. you can get pretty easy to get spotted by enemies which encourage you to utilize the environment but this also bad since the game never show you what structure you can climb. the alert phase only attract 1 guard that you spook and once you take out that guard, the game will revert back to stealth phase. the main objective of the first level is to assassinate some feudal lord and I cant manage to kill him because the guard in that area is super sensitive to your movement and if you get caught, the game will show you a 10 second unskippable cutscene which force you to try again. so far, 6/10

My suspicion as well. I recently played several hours of it but haven't finished it so far. It's slow and in a way very gamey. Environments are rather narrow and combat is sort of an afterthought as well. It's more of an adventure game about what items you pick up or don't pick up and what decisions you make along the way. The path through the game changes accordingly. I've seen you can get to the end quite quickly if you know how to trigger certain conditions.

It has a pretty strong technical presentation and atmospheric opening but it is a very slow moving game - especially with the excessive amount of time it takes to pick up any item. Maybe they did that on purpose to discourage you from picking up every single thing you see because that's actually not what you're supposed to do. Don't be greedy. Picking up items at least kind of stays interactive because ghostly hands can pop up at any time and grab you. So you gotta stay alert. Language-wise it's also not exactly beginner level in terms of vocabulary. Not sure I would call it fun honestly. It's interesting but not a total blast to play or anything.

It doesn't play like a King's Field game at all. It doesn't focus nearly as much on weapons, armor, loot or equipment. Of course there are items and things to do but it's just that nearly everything in the game servers this thematic purpose of telling a story about karma, redemption and rebirth. You're not walking around killing things willy-nilly, you're there to solve mysterious fates and reach the Gate of Judgment to basically ask for forgiveness for you past sins in life. The stories you encounter you find along the way did not interest me all that much and I failed to see what they had to do with the story of the life of the protagonist. It seemed a bit random. I was expecting a more personal story from outset and seeing the intro sequence. Maybe I didn't get far enought though and it all ties up a little better in the end - though I played several hours but I was rather slow to make progress. You definitely meet certain souls multiple times.

Slow paced, tactical Gundam game.
Rushing will get you killed and you need to manage your troops to survive.
One of the more interesting Gundam game on the ps2

There is also Echo Night 2 for ps1 that was jap-only and got translated a few years back. Just as good game.

If you have a modchip/mechapwn/run the game through OPL then they work normally, outputting a 50Hz PAL signal. Don't know how well American CRTs handle PAL (probably they don't), but it shouldn't be an issue if you're using RGB/component with a modern display or scaler.

>>8323225
I need to try that one eventually. I already have Federation vs. Zeon and One Year War for the PS2. It's nice to see how different those games can be even though they're based on the same thing.

Hell fucking no, Season Mode was the biggest thing they butchered in SvR. HCTP has the best Season Mode in any wrestling game in my opinion, big part of that is that the Season Mode was semi-randomized and could continue to provide a fresh experience so long as you continued to play and swap out characters when you felt like it. SvR introduced the extremely rigid "story mode" bullshit where while the storylines may not be in the same order every time, you still go through the same beats.
Sure this stuff is cool the first time around, it was nice to see voice acting in the series for the first time, and it felt like a logical progression, but in the end it's limiting and, honestly, kind of boring. At least later games' Road to WrestleMania have the individual storylines be REALLY long and allow them to get fleshed out and engaging to keep playing.
HCTP's Season Mode is all I ever wanted in a wrestling game, you can do whatever you want and there's stat tracking. They tried to replicate this a bit with the later Universe Mode but it isn't the same.
