threadly reminder that, while MM64 does have worse draw distance than the PS version, this comparison is made in bad faith, as it is after an event in the game where enemy Bonne robots destroy buildings in the city and the amount of damage they do (amount of buildings and houses destroyes) varies. This comparison is so shamelessly obviously made so that there's less buildings and houses on the N64 side to appear more empty on purpose.
another friendly, yet serious reminder that console warring is for homosexuals.

I'm stating that the draw distance is actually worse on N64, I have no problem when fair comparisons are fair. This one is made worse on purpose, where draw distance is not the only thing that makes the N64 side look emptier.
>>8299268
Yeah both screens should have the same amounts of buildings for it to be fairer. You could perfectly see that green house on the right, also the library (probably whites/foggier than on PS, but you could still see it), but they're gone from the N64 not because of draw distance but because the person who did that comparison pics purposedly let more buildings get destroyed on N64.

Glad you discovered and appreciated them, anon. 1 has so many cool details, Kattelox Island is one of my favorite hubworlds in any videogame. Wish 2's islands were a little more fleshed up and the Water Temple was not such a slog, but the combat was great, and the dungeons were a step in the right direction. Both have an incredible soundtrack and possibly the most impressive 5th gen cutscenes ever, it's directed like a 90s OVA with some tasty Ghibli inspiration in the settings, and those sprite-based expressions on the models, heck, they even got a charming as fuck 90s anime quality dub in the west. The look and sound of these games is just immortal, and with just a little push, the gameplay could have been as well.

Shame 3 was Capcomed, fuck now I'm sad.

However, some low-IQ chimps are grown ups and can't communicate, so merciful beings create buzzwords, so they can still express themselves, not that it's particularly worthwhile, it's just an act of mercy of the intelligent towards the stupid.

The original point was also retarded (numerous PSX games had good-looking 3D other than MML), but this point you're making is just game quantity and doesn't relate to system capability. If you add the amount of games N64 and Saturn had together, the PSX has almost 5 times as many as that number.

Except even things like simple 3D fighters aren't running at 60fps on the N64. The few that do aren't even running at a solid 60fps with dips. There's a reason for it, the N64 wins at drawing correct and filtered polygons, but not and drawing lots of them quickly. Square mentioned this in interviews discussing Final Fantasy VII and reasons for why they jumped ship beyond just CD-ROMs.

I don't think Starfox has a real Z axis (though I could be wrong), only X-Y; therefore not 3D. Doom is 3D because it uses X-Y and Z extensively in gameplay and level design. Most people who say "Quake is 3D, Doom is not" are just sheep repeating words they heard without thinking about it and wouldn't be able to give a definition of "3D" if asked. "3D" doesn't mean "being able to see 2 overlapping floors at the same time", it merely refers to X-Y-Z, doesn't matter how it's made.

Ports at the time never really took advantage of the system being ported, sometimes they end up better but they pretty much have to rebuild the whole game at that point. They are intended for people who only have one console. In general n64 just does less polys than ps1.

>>8299380
At the time I very rarely noticed it or didn't think it was even worth caring about, nowdays I can notice it pretty bad even on small crt's.

>>8300575
Sometimes pc ports would have annoying speed problems like stuttering even with a 3dfx so the game wouldn't look smooth even at a high framerate. Consoles did well with optimizing frame rate and speed.

>>8300613
Looking back I think it good that people had the choice to choose the consoles with higher rez textures or texture filtering, nice option you don't have today, now we are stuck in the middle of the road. When Dreamcast came out it felt like we could have the advantages of both consoles and at 640x480.

>>8302984
It seems like it would be a waste to fully calculate the polygons instead of making them precalculated but other fx chip games have similar performance with fully 3d so maybe it is real 3d, maybe most of the time is just filling out the shapes.

64 just wasn't a very good port. It could have been a good port, but Capcom were idiots when it came to the N64 and took until 2001 to release the game, leading to a port that was essentially rushed because they didn't want to wait on the Gamecube to release.
