Yes it was. In Unlimited Saga character looked at each other turned around while casting. And most of all - they weren't pixelated nostalgia bait but large hand drawn sprites that looked more next gen than any of the 2D but with BLOOM nostalgia shit pumped out today.

Reading the article on DQ3 remake:
>Released back in 1988, the Dragon Quest 3 was an instant success and smashed records worldwide.
It came out 4 years later in the west and didn't even sell 100k copies. It seems a lot of young journalists assume all games had a global release the same month or something. I see this mistake time and again.

What the fuck does "bloom" mean in this context? Green? Plants?

>> No.8286862

>>8286853
Light bloom. A huge buzzword tech from the 360 era and the technology responsible for everything in games like TES IV looking like they had internal light sources. Annoyingly, it is still being used in some cases, such as the OP screenshot.

Zoomers played the exact same games when they were kids, except on GBA and DS.

And I don't want anyone pandering to nostalgia. I want sprite graphics because they look way better than polygon models, which I'm absolutely sick of pretending are good by this point. I can do without the 3d world, but I'll tolerate it. Particle effects and dynamic lighting are lazy cop outs compared to drawing both in by hand.
Octopath stands by its own merits, and has a very modern combat system that is great fun. Hardly a perfect game, and too bloated, but an immersive experience.

The reason why the perspective is wrong is because everything is billboarded panels. They made the rookie mistake of mapping the enemies to the camera center, while the heroes are mapped to the ground. When the battle starts, the camera rotates into a frontal view.

i would had preferred full 3d instead. if i wanna play a 2d game i would just play the original. and the remake could be like that ps2 remake for dragon quest V where it's literally the snes game but with 3d models doing stupid looking shit like walking up ropes and walking in place bouncing up and down to indicate action. it looks stupid but it's earnest and endearing.
