I'd love to see a graphic adventure game or something similar based directly on the novel. It's gross as fuck and I think some puzzles closely following real lab procedures and stuff like that would work really well and be in line with the spirit of the book.

I like it a lot. It has really good music, great atmosphere, fun customization and the momentum of a 24 season. The fight against Eve on Liberty Island is better than everything in 2. Of course, 2 is good as well, but it feels like a bland, dull sack of shit compared to 1, with the only improvements being the combat and puzzles.

Eve looks like a '70s super sentai villain, but it's a japanese game so it must be a japanese thing. The real flaw comes from the novel itself, that is passed as sc-fi while is just wild high fantasy.

I'd change the last part where there's a psychic being throwing stuff around with telekinesis. That was pretty goofy and typically Japanese.
I also think the story works much better if you've ever spent time working in a lab of some kind. Even campus labs can be spooky as hell working after hours or during the summer when everyone's gone.

parasite eve 1 is a cool action RPG and a reminder of the time when square experimented instead of making 5 million final fantasy games. also it's funny as fuck when you rig your machine gun to coat the bullets in cyanide or fire

It's clear that the people behind the game adaptation of PE cared fuck all about the book and only about it's core idea of a sentient mitochondria. Besides the flimsy transplant excuse to bind the game to the book the game could be called anything.

I love PE2 because half of it is Parasite Eve and the other half is the Resident Evil sequel a bunch of guys from the original RE team never got to make. It doesn't always mesh perfectly but it's really cool seeing where some of those ideas could have went.

Yeah I always felt like they had a half finished game and no idea what to do with it, so they bought the PE rights for name recognition (because it was really popular in Japan at the time) and just sort of mashed it all together. It still turned out great though, so I guess it worked out in the end.

very few games qualify and pe's "b-but the mitochondria have sentience" is a shit story beat much less an entire story framework. the book could have made a cool 4 ep netflix forgettable binge watch though.

Played it for the first time today, actually enjoying the combat of real time dodging while your action points recharge until you can pause and select your own actions. Also having directional movement instead of tank controls probably helps a lot.
