Was worth it to play the only decent version of DS remastered with my friend and, as an added bonus, a comfy way to replay the 3 DKC games and also reminded me that I never beat Ninja Gaiden, so I used it as an excuse to finally beat the game. I've considered that and getting component cables for my CRT (I'm american) but frankly it doesn't really seen like it's worth it. From the comparisons I've seen it only seems to marginally improve on S-Video.

If you're doing emulation instead of native console I reccomend PJ64 with GlideN64, all accuracy enabled in plugin options (it's not taxing at all) or Parallel RDP in RetroArch which is more low level

Personally I think the Retrotink 2X Mini will be the bare minimum you'll really need. It comes with an S-video cable so you could also use it for your SNES too and the smoothing filter is fun to toy around with for some games.
I love the 5X Pro mind but for the N64 there really isn't much you can really do to make it that much better save for messing around with artificial scanlines. I haven't RGB modded mine but I hear it makes such a minimal difference that I'm not willing to pay the cost for it, especially since I dont have an NS1 model.

As a kid who owned the N64 and PS1, I had roughly the same number of games for both. There are plenty of great N64 games for the target audience of the era.

That said, as an adult with unlimited access to every videogame ever made, I play about 10x more PS1 games than N64. The PS1 has a massive library of such quality that no one could have accessed all of it under normal circumstances.
