This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!

>Try to keep it /vr/-related. Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.

Anon that was having the problem with the RCA cable distorting visuals/colors: let it all just sit for a few hours and it all works fairly normal again. Still gonna replace the cable but was fun to mess around with it a bit more. Hylics 2 looks stellar on here.

I've had this CRT for a few weeks.
However, the geometry isn't exactly the best (although I can still stand it) and the screen seems to have blue lines at the left and yellow ones at the upper right edge. What do you think is the reason behind this problem? And can it be fixed without having to get a technician to repair it?
The model is apparently a Sony KV-25FS120, but outside of having its magnets made to work in the Southern Hemisphere it's a KV-24FS120 produced in May 2004 .

That's caused by bad convergence. You might be able to correct it using the convergence settings in the service menu or by inserting magnets known as convergence strips into the deflection yoke surrounding the neck of the tube.

I see. It's a shame for me to be still using the universal remote for so long even if it works perfectly given how I can find legit ones for 5 dollars easily.
>just write down everything before you change it
This was exactly what I was planning to do. Is there anything else people recommend to use when checking geometry? I'd use 240p Test Suite, but the only console with it that I have at hand is a PS1 that reads legit discs half the fucking time, if at all. And my PS2 is just piss garbage at reading PS1 discs as well, especially since everything else runs just fine in it.
>if you fuck up just disconnect the tv and try again, DON'T factory reset the values
I've been keeping the TV plugged in since my relatives say that the CRT is more likely to malfunction if I plug it on and off repeatedly (nevermind that when I first heard about it, it sounded like a myth, as I always unplug my consoles whenever I finish using them). Factory resetting is a no no for me, now that I think about it. Can't trust 17 year old tech.

I watched one of his videos today, and it was pretty helpful as well.

Also have another picture that shows the blue convergence better. The TV also has a blue tint when it starts up, but it disappears with time and calibrates decently about 3 minutes after pressing the power button.

Retrotink and MiSTer can do some processing of their video feed to do some things that are slightly harder with software emulation. I've seen that it does wonders for stuff like Master System or Genesis games, but I'm guessing at the end of the day, even if it's scaled well, it won't gel as well with the Saturn or that entire generation because of the overwhelming reliance on the CRT scanlines to actually make it look good, right?

Haven't posted in /crt/ for a bit. A Sony KV25XBR fell into my lap recently, and I finally got around to making a cable for the RGB input. It's not as sharp as my PVM, but it's in good shape for its age, and the extra 5 inches of screen space make all the difference.

They're far from the worst. A lot of their mid-range stuff from 15 to 20-ish years ago is actually pretty solid, and usually goes for free or cheap specifically because Sony isn't a big name for speakers.

I actually got a set of old APMs off ebay not too long ago, from a seller who had mistakenly listed them as something else. The stupid dipshit also didn't know how to pack speakers, unfortunately, because they arrived completely destroyed and I had to send them back for a refund. What a fucking waste.

Are there any schematics out there for how to convert an RGB signal to monochrome video so that I can connect various color 8-bit computers to a monochrome monitor? I've heard you can do this with some simple resistors but I can't find any exact schematics for it.

Those are sorta expensive and I have no need for one for any other purpose, it should be much cheaper to simply build this myself. A little while ago I saw some schematic for how to do this, but I can't find it now and it was also specifically for converting VGA to greyscale which might not work for stuff like the ZX Spectrum which used TV standards.

does the monitor just use a standard RCA input for the luma? If so you should just be able to plug in the composite video and use that. Or use a s-video adapter that breaks it out into two RCA jacks for chroma/luma and use the luma from that.

>does the monitor just use a standard RCA input for the luma?
Yeah.
>If so you should just be able to plug in the composite video and use that.
But then it will be less sharp than a if it was actual monochrome video.
>Or use a s-video adapter that breaks it out into two RCA jacks for chroma/luma and use the luma from that.
There's no S-Video on the device, there's just no demand for that in a ZX Spectrum clone since most people interested in them live in the UK or Spain where RGB is commonly available.
>Is the device you're using RGB-only?
No, there is both RGB and composite. It's the Harlequin 128k which is a modern ZX Spectrum clone. I actually haven't gotten it yet, I'm getting a monochrome monitor first, they're a bit hard to find here compared to the US.

Unfortunately then it's going to require some kind of transcoder like the other anon said. It's been a while since I've bought mine, but I assume those CSY2100 clones still go for like ~40-50 bucks, no? Not that I'd like to get one JUST for this one niche purpose (although I think it's handy to have for other reasons), but I don't think there's going to be a cheaper/easier way than that. Besides using composite, but then like you said you lose sharpness.

>> No.8288126

Alright, I guess the transcoder is always an option, but I'll look around a bit more because I know there are much simpler mechanisms for converting RGB to monochrome video out there. I'm no engineer, but theoretically it should be a really simple thing that just combines R+G+B to get the overall amount of light, then probably have the voltage stepped down, then the sync combined back in. Probably something you could even do yourself if you're able to find schematics and have soldering tools.

But if you need to buy a device, it really depends on how much that would cost relative to an RGB/YPbPr transcoder. Because if it's only, oh say, 10 bucks more, you might as well get that instead since it does everything the luma transcoder would do while also being more versatile for other applications if need be.

Exactly, hence why I'm trying to find schematics. It sounds like a very simple thing. I already have access to soldering equipment.
>Because if it's only, oh say, 10 bucks more, you might as well get that instead since it does everything the luma transcoder would do while also being more versatile for other applications if need be.
Well, even if cost wasn't really a concern, a device that only condenses down RGB to monochrome video would be smaller and might not require an external power source. I have no need for converting RGB to YpBpR since equipment that takes that signal is virtually non-existent in countries where SCART was in use.

>> No.8288152

>>8288145
Fair enough, looks like a DIY job is the best option. But it's such a niche use case that I don't think you'll have an easy time finding the appropriate schematics.

Maybe see if you can find schematics for a component transcoder and just look at the luma line to see what they're doing there. Probably won't be that simple but worth a shot. Regardless, best of luck searching.

Convergence strips fix convergence, not purity issues like that one. Curved trinitrons can be a pain. Reseating the yoke is best, but it involves setting up the convergence again after that. And it's not a guaranteed fix.

If you can't or don't want to get it right with the yoke, Sony themselves would recommend using small disc magnets - probably shown in you service manual. The key is just to know the numbers; deeper stands are out there, and weight limits are always listed. Plus, since CRTs are so front-heavy, you generally don't need a stand that will hold their entire depth, so make sure to measure how much space the actual feet for your TV set/monitor require. Back in the day, I used to have a 32 inch JVC on a stand that was only 17 inches deep. It was fine.

to be honest I don't see much of a point of RGB nowadays unless you're scaling it up to a modern tv, have some meme broadcast monitor or want to roleplay as a TV repair technician from the 90's. Consumer TV sets, especially flat screen CRTs, have so many small imperfections that I can't be assed to go anywhere beyond component anymore. I embrace the SOUL now.

>> No.8291217

If you live in a country where consumer RGB was widespread there's no reason to not use RGB if the console supports that out of the box, which is basically everything but the Famicom (which outputs composite straight from the chip) and the N64 (which is obviously RGB internally but for whatever reason they decided to not connect it. My main CRT doesn't take NTSC even though it's fine with 60hz, so if I connect anything to it through composite it's just going to be black and white.
>want to roleplay as a TV repair technician from the 90's

Oh yeah I forget about europe. In my country there was 1 (one) TV model out of all manufacturers that used SCART with RGB (guess there was a brief consideration to adopt it?). Yeah if your TV has the input from the get go, I see no reason not to use it.
My comment about repairman was mostly referring to people that mess with the deflection yoke, purity, convergence, etc. beyond the software service menu, on consumer grade equipment. Seems like a lot of effort for something that will never give an 100% correct image, but I could be wrong. That seems to be the case with flat screens at least.

If you're talking about RCA it's currently unknown if those SCART ports had RGB or not. But I'm pretty sure Bang & Olufsen kept their RGB-SCART ports on all their models even in the US. I have a service manual for my B&O and it gives details on the North American version but doesn't state that it has different inputs or anything like that, it's just the RF parts and the power supply that was different.

Your logic of "it isn't worth it because CRTs are already full of imperfections" is kinda backward, because then wouldn't you at least want to use the highest-quality signal that inherently results in perfect brightness, contrast, and color purity to offset that as much as possible? Honestly those are the biggest assets of RGB, moreso than "muh sharp scanlines" that redditors wank over. Granted, unless you have a set or broadcast monitor capable of it's a bit silly to obsess over it, but whatevs.
>I can't be assed to go anywhere beyond component anymore
Did you mean composite? Because most /vr/ systems don't support component and would require some kind of transcoding from RGB to do that. And if you did mean composite, that's also silly, because the step up to S-video offers fantastic returns for minimal effort, and is readily available on most systems and consumer TVs beyond the early '90s.

Nitpicking aside, anon, I actually completely approve of your preference of SOUL, but like... don't try to justify it. Just do it and be shameless.

I went down a weird rabbit hole looking into this shit, but to try and find a TV cabinet that would support my 65" TV -and- fit inside my teensy housing unit -while also- having a central shelf wide enough to accomodate a soundbar.

Long story short, I ended up deep-diving into google (which is fucking worthless these days thanks to SEO) and ultimately found a small business that traded in hand-made wooden furniture. Paid out the nose, but the quality is great if you can't find an old entertainment center from an estate sale or something you might find something solid enough this way.

>isn't it just as simple as plugging in an hdmi>rca adapter then fullscreening snes9x
no, because you have to make sure your computer is sending a 240p signal, and you have to make sure your hdmi-analog converter is keeping that 240p and not scaling it to 480i. I actually haven't heard of an hdmi to composite converter that works for this (could be wrong), the best way I can think of is hdmi->vga then vga->composite. Or get an old radeon card that has a composite connection and use crtemudriver

>> No.8297809

Doesn't that basically entirely depend on the connections you have available? Does your laptop only have a Thunderbolt USB-C? HDMI? VGA? S-Video? Does your CRT have anything but Co-Ax?

>My TV says in the back that only 50Hz is supported
It's just probably the AC power rating, something like "220-240V 50Hz", right? It doesn't tell you anything about what video modes it supports, except for PAL, because judgding by that information it's an European model. It could very well also support 60Hz over RGB and NTSC over composite. You have to check it in the manual or test it yourself to be certain.
>PS3
The thing with PS3 is that PAL models don't let you set 480i/p in the display options, you can only choose HD or 576i/p regardless of what TV it's connected to. However you can force it by playing a Japanese DVD. It's region 2, so it will work on an European console. Turning off scaling switches the output to 480p on HDMI, it should output 480i through SD cables. I don't have a CFW on mine, but I've heard you can use that instead.

Thats called PAL60, so PAL colors but at 60hz instead of 50Hz, although some games will go straight into full NTSC mode(as in identical to the USA version of the game) when selecting 60hz mode, at least on some ps2 games which results in black&white colors if your tv doesn't do ntsc colors via composite, and that can be fixed with using RGB scrat cables or with transcoders(the first option is cheapter and easier).

I just tried and the Wii displays at 480i. 480p is locked in 240p suite, but all the other mixed tests with 240p, 288p, 264p and 528p work, be it PAL or NTSC. PS3 displays in Standard PAL and the 576p gives a blank image. TV is a Beko and I'm using composite cables to SCART adapter.

I'd say you're good, if you don't get black and white image on composite then it even supports NTSC color coding. The only thing I'd recommend is getting some good RGB cables since you're using SCART anyway.

Eh, from what I've seen RGB doesn't make much difference and I'm happy with composite. I've got component cables, but I don't have a component to SCART adapter. And the component cables were cheaper than normal from Amazon, so they're probably fake (or simply not RGB) and I didn't know better when I bought them.

Anyone know could be causing the smearing-to-the-right effect shown in this pic? Pic is from Retro Tech but he doesn't mention the artefacting on this monitor, but I have a PVMeme with the same issue (albeit nowhere near as bad, only a very subtle effect only visible in certain situations like the 240p test suite screen).

It's definitely something to do with the monitor itself. I've tried multiple consoles, multiple inputs, multiple signal types, multiple cables, and multiple monitors.

Is this a problem with the tube itself and there's no way to fix it? Does it need caps replaced? If it's a cap issue, can the problem be narrowed down rather than just a "replace everything" shotgun approach?

Oh I didn't read; if it's not the cable then there is interference perhaps at the rca connectors themselves, or immediately inside the set behind them. Also, it's hard to tell but your pic seems to show you have the brightness way too high, this effect you have is more or less present on all TVs but you can't see it because it is so faint as to be impossible to perceive. Is there a 75ohm switch on the back of the tv at the video connector? Either your brightness is set way too high or the 75ohm switch might be turned off making the image too bright

Like I said, I've tested and accounted for EVERYTHING.
It happens with every console.
It happens with every cable
It happens with every input type from composite to s-video to component to RGB
It happens on all of the PVMs inputs (component, s-video, both RGB/YPbBr inputs)
And I have other screens and this is the only one with the "ghosting" effect. Same consoles/cables/etc going into the other screens don't show the effect.

Keep in mind that pic is not mine, it's just an example of a similar effect I saw on a Retro Tech video (easier than going home and taking a picture myself, especially when mine is far more subtle).
Also it's not an issue with 75 ohm auto-termination. Brightness/etc are properly calibrated and I've tried using my own 75 ohm terminators as well as daisy chaining to a separate termination point. Effect remains regardless

have you tried plugging the tv in a different wall socket or even a different room? It could be electrical interference from some other appliance or bad grounding. Otherwise it sounds like you've entirely narrowed it down to the internals

True, I haven't tried that and it's been ages since I've moved it. It's a 20" PVM so it's a total pain in the ass to move, especially with everything else built around it.
I'll give that a shot, thanks. Maybe see if I can string together a bunch of surge protectors to reach a different room.

Do you have any idea what the effect is called, btw? Half the problem is that I don't even know how to refer to the horizontal streaking that appears to the right after bright things on the screen. Streaking? Ghosting? Makes it hard to search for similar issues and/or fixes when I don't even know how to name it.

>> No.8301263

>>8301043
Well, you'd have to get new cables anyway, since what you call component isn't RGB, it's YPbPr and not directly compatible without a transcoder. A simple adapter won't work here (unless you want a monochrome picture, then just use the green plug with a simple composite-to-SCART adapter).
YPbPr inputs weren't very common in Europe until HDTVs came around. The color coding of the plugs has caused a lot of confusion over the years it seems.
RGB is technically a component video format, because it uses multiple wires to send multiple "components" of the picture, but let's not get into that and just stick with common naming conventions where component == YPbPr.

Getting a better quality connection is always a profit, but if you're happy with composite then have it your way and enjoy the games.

>>8301224
I saw a similar issue last week on my dad's LCD with his DVD player plugged in via SCART. Wiggling the plug a bit made the problem less visible, but it still remained. One of my PC monitors using an analog D-Sub connection has this issue sometimes too, but reseating the plug always helps.
I don't think there's something wrong with your tube, because it looks like a typical connection problem. Maybe check the wires inside the TV?

Yeah, it'll probably come down to checking the internals. But that's why I was hoping to get an idea of either what is responsible for the effect or what area of the board I could narrow down the problem to. Otherwise I'm just kinda flying blind.

yes, look for an hdmi-component transcoder that says it can both send and receive 480i signals, this way it will preserve whatever signal you send it. Then All you need to do is force your computer to output 240p on your hdmi (possible in a few ways, depending on your video card). Try googling "hdmi to component 240p" or some such, or sort through the hdmi-component converters on amazon and find one that lists 480i as an output option

For 6th gen many/most games can do 480p, but honestly 480i on a good CRT with a good signal like RGB or component looks really good.

Use the new drivers to enable csync, then obtain or make a vga to scart cable with a 480ohm resistor on the sync line to drop the voltage from TTL level to around 1v. You're right, they don't inherently, but the devices I'm interested in (scalers, to continue using original hardware) do.
Most people aren't autistic enough to spend hours fiddling with crtroyale settings, and the people that do are still ultimately emulating- not that there's anything wrong with it, but the demographic is less wealthy and thus less likely to own the kind of beefy GPU and >1440p screens needed to get the benefit out of it.

That pic wasn't mine, but was taken by someone with an N64 Digital from about a foot away from a mid-tier screen. At a comfortable seating distance on a nice 4K OLED TV you would notice it far less.
And ultimately I don't need 100% accurate reproduction of CRT effects, just something that makes old games look remotely of-their-era on a modern TV rather than turning an SD image into a literal mosaic made up of (napkin math) 5mm tiles.

That's because you're shoving a 31.5KHz signal (480p) into a tube designed for 15Khz (240p/480i). And it's doing damage to the monitor, so stop it immediately.

I'm just glad I got to see Majora's Mask on an actual CRT. No shader replicates the level of color blending I was seeing and the game would suffer without it. Most games it's fine to use whatever but Majora's would genuinely be sub-par without a real CRT or a shader that actually does real color bleeding simulations.

I mean that HD CRTs are notorious for being laggy with scaling and displaying resolutions lower than their native resolution, which is their max resolution. If a CRT maxes out at 720p, then 720p content should have little to no lag, and I can use an external scaler to linedouble 240p+480i to 720p (with 480p being the odd man out unfortunately, but should be ok enough).

As far as I know, external scalers don't really scale TO 1080i, do they? I recall reading the RT5x recently added support for scaling to 540p, which displays 1080i monitors, but does it do full-on 1080i?

>> No.8304968

Are there any consoles that DON'T output TTL csync, or should all csync cables for all consoles have a 470ohm resistor on them?

I DIY'd a bunch of my own cables a couple years ago and I put appropriate resistors on them, but I just now realized the RGB cables I got from retrogamingcables many many years back don't have a resistor on the csync line, at least not in the SCART head. Just want to make sure there aren't any exceptions before I modify the cables.

>> No.8305239

>>8305189
Pretty much all console csync is ttl. If you have a multi metre check the voltage is not above 1v. Usually consoles put out 2v-ish on that line. I've never had any trouble with retro gaming cables csync though. Bear in mind TTL voltage can mean anything from 2v-5v and console scart cables were originally designed with cvbs in mind.

>> No.8305265

>>8305239
I thought you needed a scope to check these things because it's Vp-p rather than just V. But I'm also not an EE so I don't really know much.

>I've never had any trouble with retro gaming cables csync though.
Yeah, neither have I. It's just something I happened to notice while tinkering with stuff this evening.
Keep in mind it's probably been about 6-7 years since I bought my cables from them, so it's also possible they've since updated their designs, assuming the ones I have are actually off-spec.

Also kinda annoying that none of the sites AFAIK actually give straightforward info on what components are in their cables. Like I wish the product pages would just say "220uF caps on these lines, 330 ohm resistor on this line"

>> No.8305292

>>8305265
I have opened up all their old cables and from memory (?) the megadrive had 330ohm, and anything they strapped an lm1882 sync stripper to (ie. non jap saturn) had 480ohm. You don't really need to go to such extremes as using a scope, I've ran csync for 15 years into my scart tv/equipment with no dramas. Most third party cable manufacturers (including myself) use Tim Worthington's (nes rgb inventor) diagrams from his website, if your unsure just use those diagrams as a reference.

>> No.8305315

>>8305292
Are you referring to these diagrams?
http://members.optusnet.com.au/eviltim/gamescart/gamescart.htm

They're great and they're partly what I used to DIY my own cables a few years ago. Only problem is they only show composite video and assume sync-on-composite, not even showing pinouts for CSYNC, much less telling you what you might need on the line of the cable.

>> No.8305383

>>8305315
Yeah, that's the site. Personally, I use 330ohm on all of the consoles that output csync without modification, and 480ohm for the one chip famicon/snes and anything that uses a sycstripper in line (neogeo cd, PS1, pal-ntsc saturn). Reason being that the lm1882 outputs 5v.As for capacitors (I'd have to check my note's) but it was either 220uf or nothing, and that was trial and error on lots of different equipment. Although on my setup if I can't get pure csync I'll use luma instead, makes no difference and requires no extra components.

>> No.8305443

>>8305383
Luckily I managed to find another page that gives info for proper attenuation of the csync lines of all consoles. I'm pretty sure this is the resource I used years ago when making my cables
https://www.retrorgb.com/csync.html
Kinda shocking how this seems to be the only page on the entire internet actually detailing this info. But I'm just glad I found it.
Does seem that whether to use a 330 vs 470 ohm resistor seems to depend on nintendo vs sega, for the most part. I'll probably just do a quick solder job tomorrow if I can dig around and find some resistors/caps laying around.

As for why I've always gone with CSYNC, it's really just a matter of uniformity to me. Not all consoles have s-video for sync-on-luma, there's a higher risk of interference with sync-on-composite, and the biggest reason is that my main setup uses an extron crosspoint which only accepts csync. Of course the ironic thing here is that extrons boost the sync lines to TTL-level anyway, but I still want my cables to be "correct" for when I sometimes use the cables in other ways like with a component transcoder on a consumer CRT.

I use a crosspoint too, it boosts cysnc to 5v. Just make a cable with 480ohm inline resistors from it to your input.I was just digging through my lab and found hundreds of pages of notes for gaming consoles (picrel], maybe one day I'll make a website. Nice diagrams. I really wish I kept the ones I drew from when I made my stuff. Just nice to be able to quickly check things on paper rather than open up those dogshit SCART heads.

I'm not worried about TTL voltages off the extron since I only use it with professional equipment designed for it anyway. But yes, one of these days I'll probably make a simple RCA cable extension with the resistor in it, just to have. The thing is I don't always use everything with the crosspoint, like I might use a console with a larger consumer CRT in another room with a transcoder box, or maybe one day get an upscaler, and I just want to make sure everything is properly attenuated in the console cables.

Thanks for your help, between those two pages I'll be able to verify/upgrade if need be.

I would if I could find one. Literally the only person I know who still owns a consumer set still is my grandma who also won't give it up for the life of her (offered to get her a bigger LCD telly for her birthday because it's only a couple hundred for a decent one nowadays and her poor eyesight needs to recover from it and she still said nah), and waiting for her to die just to take the 20' set out of her house sounds pretty heartless to me
Even the bogans and abbos around town don't have them anymore. At most you'll see one set chucked into the curb every six months, getting even more infrequent and it's almost always when it's just been raining.
The worst part is my childhood flat CRT at my dad's house that I grew up playing the PS1/2 on was still there up until like 2016 when he finally got around to chucking it out. I was even like 'nah you should hold onto that fuck I'll even take it home' and he was like 'nah they're cheap as fuck I wouldn't be too worried about it'. if you play a 4:3 UMD video with the 4:3 setting it will fill the screen and not be squished or stretched, but there's not many of those.

Man, you guys are dumb. Scanlines are literally the lines of video. It's the image itself, not the space between the lines. The black spaces between are NOT scanlines.

Hate posting stupid tech questions but this one is driving me crazy
I have RetroArch outputting to my VGA CRT with an HDMI to VGA adapter. That works fine, looks good. My issue is that when using my other displays, RetroArch switches to a windowed mode until I click back into the application. This occurs when the VGA monitor is running at 640x480.
If I set the resolution to 1280x960 the issue goes away and I can use other applications while keeping RetroArch fullscreen. Any other anons run into this? This only started happening in the last year so I'm guessing it's Windows 10 or RA updates.

>> No.8312448

>>8312391
Try making wider horizontal resolutions with the same vertical resolution. Then rescale it in retroarch. Try 2x, 3x, 4x, etc on the horizontal side of things.

>> No.8312517

>>8312448
ie super resolution? I've done this before but I'm not a huge fan of rgui. Is there any way to get integer scaling to work for 240p/480i content at 800x600 or any in between resolution? I use the tvout interlaced shader but this breaks unless I use 640x480 or 1280x960, anything in between causes issues.

>> No.8312562

>>8312517
Not quite super resolution, you're stretching out the picture to be wider to some higher resolution. Windows and gpu drivers can get fucky if the pixel count is too low so stretching out and then reigning it back in in software is a way around it.

Do flat screen CRTs screw up with the precision of lightguns or its just my clone lightgun that sucks ass? Like jesus christ it's better to use a controller bad for me right now.

they can, especially if it's a 100hz set, but what your experiencing is probably a combination of that and shitty light gun

with an 100hz TV light guns won't work whatsoever
If your gun is inaccurate you probably need to turn up brightness, sit closer to the TV, fix convergence on your set or a combination of the three. I have a JVC D series with geometry issues I can't fix through the service menu and it's almost useless for light gun games, I simply play them on a different TV.

region gets set automatically im pretty sure. my snes is region unlocked and i can switch between 50 and 60hz on the fly, the tv adapts automatically. sync is set to external, last setting i dont know what exactly you mean. the tv is set to rgb, its basically set to the same settings as when i would use my snes.

its not stretched, the sides are cut off because its 16:9. i just threw the first best video on there that had the right format. the dvd player also only takes files smaller than 2GB through the USB port and most of my 480p shows are way above that for no good reason. but then again, switching 16:9 and 4:3 in the players settings does seemingly nothing. but my tv can do underscan so its good enough.

I’m strongly considering driving 6 hours and buying a BVM-1915 for $1150. I’ve accepted that I’m going to have to pay a lot for a 19 inch BVM.

Is that a fine price or am I retarded?
