Hey there /vr/. I'm NOT the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. Currently, the hack is close to being completed. I'm posting here rather than /v/ because this board moves a bit slower, and there isn't as much concern about the Thread being bumped out before it's too late, and there's things in /trash/ that I wish I hadn't seen.

Feel free to use the thread for discussion on the project and the few works-in-progress that need to be taken care of before release.

Maybe organizer will release the hack in this thread. Or provide some more updates.

i just remembered this today while playing vip 4 for the first time (been playing the entire vip series slowly all year) and wanting to play an actually good hack (/v/1 and /v/2 were excellent), check /v/ archives and last thread was 79 days ago, apparently threads have moved to /trash/ and here

Threads were happening on /s4s/ and /trash/ for a while since multiple anons were working on character sprites and discuss the game while also shitposting about moot and other characters. Some of the playtesting threads were done on /v/ and the plan was to have the hack be finished on week 7 but there was a lot of work left so it had to be delayed so we moved to /vr/ because the board is slow and romhacking threads are already allowed so none of the jannies got mad about it. The last build we got was week 11 which was around 2 months ago. Currently there is no build with the proper playable final bosses and the latest build has some overworld issues if I remember correctly. Some levels are broken or harder as well. OP is still working on it albeit with rare updates and we still don't have a real release date.

I don't think it has been cancelled though; it's just updates are slow as fuck. /v/orld 3 already has more content than the other two hacks but we really started late with implementing the big stuff like the final bosses and other playable characters. The only thing we are currently doing is playtesting and waiting for OP. it's fortunate you did. I'm a /vr/ trooper, and I only venture on to /v/ for the GDQ threads, so the /vr/ thread is how I got on board. I've done tons of playtesting, and I created the magikoopa boss concept (which replaced just Lemmy with extra stuff).

that's at least partially because the old op likely would have nixed a lot of the content the current op allowed to /v/3 to get it released on time.

also, approaching this V coin from the right angle sometimes gives you more than 1 V coin, sometimes 2 and rarely even 3 maybe more. I seem to recall this already being fixed or addressed though. Something went horribly and retardedly wrong with that level. From what I can gather the author didnt intend for there to be a secret exit but OP saw a piece of the level and added a secret exit. Something like that. IIRC author said he was surprised and would contact organizer about it.

If you wish to know how to access the secret exit:
You must bring a cape past the midway. Yeah I know, there's not even a cape in the level, but Origin of Life is close by with a cape near the start if you dont have access to Bender's Big Score. Anyways bring it past the midway and proceed through the autoscroller. (you can cheese the level by bouncing off the beetle and getting up top). When you get near the end of the autoscroller jump down to where the pipe is, acquire p speed, and carefully fly many screens to the right where you will find some platforms and the secret exit.

playtested more of Star World. holy shit, super moot boy was hard, although I eventually persevered. DOOR DOOR is an amazing level with a retarded name. however, I still haven't figured out the secret there, I even tried diving with the cape, hoping the impact would make the key jump and hit the switch, but nope.
you don't have to give it away, but can someone confirm that the DOOR DOOR secret is accessible?

it's nice to hear that, i was actually disappointed with it as it really didnt turn out like I envisioned. designing around the mechanic was a lot harder than i thought it would be: i wanted a much larger secondary section where you bounce sprites that spawn with the door timing but it just wasnt working out, and i didnt want the level to get too long.
also re:name open to anyone asking op to change the name to whatever. i'm not great at naming things outside of generic <adjective> <noun> which is boring

I made suggestions on the doc, here they are: add 100 seconds to the start time to provide more leeway (500 rather than 400), the midpoint can remain at 400.
The enemies that shoot blue fireballs should have different sprites, if that's not too much to ask, maybe a purple color or similar.
also, if you hit the flying koopa with the cape, it keeps shooting blue fireballs in shell form. I assume that's not intended.

Skimmed through a bunch of levels in Lunar Magic. Saw some interesting level changes; looks like most of the major issues have indeed been fixed. As for those Tux penguin resprites from many threads ago, I think they're funny and should go somewhere. It wouldn't be right to put them in someone's level without their permission, but they'd be harmless in the boss rush entrance.

1. a condition should be added so that he needs two empty tiles above a surface in order to spawn. currently he can spawn on top of blocks, which disrupt his shots.
2. another increment of difficulty should be added, so that on 2/5 hits, the shell gets reflected at normal speed, and his shots go at 2x speed. at 3/5 hits, current fast shell return & shots would take over.

Ok seriously, has anyone even beaten this outside of the author?
The level itself is pretty tough, Fishing Dobson + Projectiles is a pain at the start and then Fishing Dobson + Hatkid at the end is a chaotic mess. But those are pretty managable.
Heck even the boss isn't too bad. Yellow Devil actually isn't too bad once you get use to the Megaman Physics. Phase 2 is a bit of a bitch but once you get the timing down its pretty simple (OP: There is a glitch in the Yellow Devil/Shadow Devil boss where if you pause and exit, the room level timer gets set to 200, giving you barely enough time to beat him. I'd bump it up to 400 if you have the chance.)
The Alt Path I keep eating shit on. The fucking annoying as shit part is it FEELS doable.

Its beatable without rewinds, savestates or TAS stuff. Its basically an gauntlet of managing Fishin' Boo patterns and P-Speed managing.
You can easily cheese the end part by spin jumping on the fishin' boo's and holding the P-Switch. Plus there is enough Mushrooms to keep you not in OHKO range.

i also noticed that the boss' health bar, which uses the ChangeMap16 routine and a static table of tiles in order to update, was also fucked up

Alt Path was not beaten with Save States, Rewinds or any other TOS bs. I completed it three times. If need be I can upload a video of me beating it again to prove so. Like the other anon said you can cheese it if you're good at spin jumping on Fishin' Boo's. There is three mushrooms in the level if you need to damage boost and also the whole path is optional unless you're going for 100% /v/ coins.

the kaizo "community" definition is that there is only one path to beat a kaizo level. ie you have to everything exactly as the author did it to beat the level. traditional levels usually give you many options and strategies to beat a level.
this means according to the kaizo "community" that there can be extremely easy kaizo hacks, it's not a synonym for difficulty (though most hacks require technical knowledge and reaction time that usually at least make them harder than an SMWC "very hard", though i would classify many easier kaizo: lite hacks as "hard" nowadays)
this is why stuff like hyper 6, the vips, the entire jump/yump series outside of a specific few levels, the /v/orlds outside of a specific few levels, would usually be classified as "very hard" on SMWC (hyper 6 is more like "nightmare" than "very hard")
