Why is it less liked than 2 and 3? It went back to the focus of exploring tombs and cut down on the shitty human combat that plagued the last two games. The level are some of the best in the series with the sprawling, multi-level areas with good puzzles and atmosphere. It kept all the gameplay additions from before and added even more. Story is also much better and the visuals are peak classic TR.

Are 2 and 3 liked at all? The series never clicked for me after the first game, probably because the engine wasn't really suited for the sort of environments they went for. They should have stuck to caves and temples and not trying to overreach

Like other Tomb Raider games after 2, it's designed with the best intentions and looks good on paper, but messes up the execution. It's arguably better than TR3, but only Dreamcastfags tend to put it above TR1 or 2.

>cut down on the shitty human combat that plagued the last two games.
Human combat was great in TR1 and 2. Their inclusion makes sense to the plot, melee guys are just substitutes for gorillas, flamethrower guys are a rare but dangerous threat if come across unexpectedly, knife throwers are fun to evade while fighting, and the average gun guys have the same hitscan weapons as Lara which makes battles with them interesting tests of your manoeuvrability.
What's worse is they substituted it with silly sandninja fights which are just a case of lowering then drawing your shotgun, and an overabundance of invincible threats. The skeletons were fun opponents, but the amount of shit you just have to run from is disappointing.
>The level are some of the best in the series with the sprawling, multi-level areas with good puzzles and atmosphere.
There's a lot of good levels but there also the unskippable tutorial, retarded hubs that let you enter areas you cannot progress through, and the last 20% of the game is a slog
>It kept all the gameplay additions from before and added even more.
It kept the unnecessary additions from TR3 and added its own garbage like ropeswinging, opening trapdoors, and unique lever designs
>Story is also much better
Definitely better than TR3, but not as good as Natla's backstabbing and uncovering Atlantis in TR1, or Lara inserting herself into the long-standing Bartoli/Barkhang beef from TR2.

You've sold me on trying this game. I loved TR1 but quit part way through TR2 because the combat was not fun and the way enemies would pop out of nowhere and immediately start blasting you felt cheap. TR1 was good because it the atmosphere was immersive, the exploration was compelling, and the puzzles were fun.

I have no idea if this is true >>8251098 but I suppose back in the 90s normies could consider Tomb Raider 2 the best because it was more combat oriented, an aspect of the gameplay that was more crude in the first.

I'd just use the level skip cheat. Also, IIRC some versions allow you to skip Von Croy's dialogue with a press of the look button.

That being said, I don't really like TR4 much. Some changes and additions to it I'm not too fond of. I'm trying to give it a proper playthrough to improve my opinion of it, but I've kind of burned out at Alexandria. I've currently taken a detour to TLA, as I have yet to also properly play that from start to finish without skipping levels.

The Last Revelation is a wet dream of every egyptomaniac. There's 3000 years of Egyptian history, from era of pyramids through golden ages of the new kingdom and magnificent Karnak temple to sunken Ptolemy ruins of Cleopatra's palace and even medieval Citadel in Cairo.
Puzzles are very challenging and often rooted in mythology and history of Egypt and it's not just the basics they teach in school. Developers went much deeper although not completely nerdy either. Dark secret passages, deadly traps and beautiful chambers. You can even drive a Landrover and jump on a train to Alexandria.

This is obviously my fav TR game of all time although TR1 and Anniversary come close.

I don't think it's less liked, whenever it's mentioned today it's recognized as a quality entry for the reasons you mentioned, it was less popular at the time because of the yearly release fatigue, people ignored it as they moved on to other games, and eidos was rightfully criticized for milking the formula too much without improving issues like control stiffness.

Now we're used to games being milked to death with a new cod or asscreed every year with the same recycled engine and gameplay but at the time, shit was evolving so fast that while tr1 was seen as revolutionary the same engine and gameplay was seen as terribly dated just 3 years later. Chronicles really hammered in that fatigue, no one took Lara's death seriously.

>> No.8254716

They added a million shitty hitscanning enemies to TR2 because people found out that you can cheeze 90% of the encounters in the first game by standing on a rock and shooting animals with your infinite ammo pistols until they died.

They also upped the difficulty significantly because outside of a couple of fights and one very retarded platforming section filled with instant death in Natla's Mines (you know the one) the first game isn't really difficult at all, especially if you keep a good eye out for secrets. Even on a casual playthrough these days I can finish the game with thousands of rounds of ammo for the Magnums and Uzis, hundreds of shells for the shotgun, and 30+ of each healthpack. Because TR2 allowed players to save anywhere, the devs put in a lot more instant death traps, because they assumed that players would be saving often.

I love the first game, to this day I don't think there has ever been another game to absolutely nail the sense of isolation and exploration that Tomb Raider does so well. As far as I am concerned 2 and 3 are dogturds, The Last Revelation is great, and half of is great and the other half is just ok.

>>8251947
I read an interview a while back that said that the team knew that TLR was going to be the last real TR game on the PS1, so they poured their heart and soul into it, and it definitely shows. Chronicles was a quick cash-in while they worked on next-gen stuff, and it has very uneven quality as a result.

As long as you're not a retard that just trades bullets with the enemies, they're good encounters. Getting behind enemies, or circle-strafing them, or being defensive and using the environment to break their target locks or get out of range, all make for fun fights. If there's an awkwardly placed enemy giving you shit, they can just be one-shotted with a nade when other approaches fail.
They took inspiration from the great battles with Natla's henchmen and just expanded them across the game.

Natla's Henchmen battles were the worst part of Tomb Raider. That faggot Pierre Dupont would show up out of nowhere in an area he literally could not have gotten to before you, then shoot you for a while, then disappear as soon as you lost line of sight with him (meaning he could vanish in the middle of a dead end room), meanwhile animal enemies are ignoring him and running right past him to get to you.

Blowing him away for good with a set of your own Magnums was the only satisfying part of any of the henchmen battles. You can skip the zoomer on rollerblades fight since there is a set of uzis in an alcove overlooking the arena, and if I remember right you can skip the cowboy fight as well since he doesn't give you anything. The only one you actually need to kill in Natla's Mines is the giga nigga who has your shotgun.

thanks friend, it works smoothly on loliSnatcher. The problem with this is the porn pics, i mean, of course i love to see her naked but not always. I think filters isn't a big thing on this app, so, nothing more than 4-5 filters are allowed (and that sucks).

>>8259583
>Also, do you know why some pictures are named properly when you save them and some have those random sequences of letters/numbers?

what do you mean? you refer to my pics? if so it's because i always use a tool to erase the EXIF data of the image before sharing it. Call me a schizo or whatever, but i don't want my data to be leaked in a website that uses cloudflare tbqh.

if you meant the filename after downloading a pic that's another issue. Do you download your stuff directly on your PC/laptop or do you use some app in your mobile (like me, sometimes)?
Downloading stuff from devianart may be a pain in the dick if you want to get a full gallery, so, for doing that i use gallery-dl in conjunction with "DevianArt Filter" (a browser addon). Or, now that i remember... i also used "Booru Slideshow", it's another addon that shows results using tags while checking results from a huge range of booru sites.

Also, thanks both for the link!

It's not an app thing. The websites restrict the number of filters. If you want more, you need to buy premium. A way to bypass that would be to blacklist tags associated with porn.

that's... a way to do it of course, but you can speed up the process by using addons. I've one that by only hover the mouse over the pic shows it in full size (without clicking or leaving the site) and then downloading it by pressing a key.
