Silent Hill 1 and Clock Tower for the SNES.

>> No.8246832

Finished up Silent Hill 2 and 3. Both were great games, but 3 definitely felt a bit rougher in comparison. First half felt weaker in comparison, though it did pick up once you entered Silent Hill.
Tempted to play through SH4, but I recently started up another RE3 run so that'll be on the backburner. Maybe I'll try to fit in something shorter, like Doom 64, HOTD1, Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti, or Castlevania, not sure if I can fit Clive Barker's Undying or Nosferatu Wrath of Malachi into it.

it's very middling. The combat design is nothing special, and the level design is pretty much the Spencer mansion but almost completely symmetrical without much thought or care put into its design. The visual design of some of the areas is worth seeing, the soundtrack isn't bad, and it's a really weird alternate take on Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust's story. It's a fairly short game, and there's some annoying tank control platforming involved, but it's worth playing at least once if you're already a fan. Otherwise you're better off watching the 1985 OVA and Bloodlust.

Yeah, as others have said, the N64 didn't get a lot of exclusive horror-themed titles. You have some multi-platform releases like Resident Evil 2 (which does have an exclusive randomizer mode on N64), Nightmare Creatures, Shadow Man, and Quake.

With its soundtrack, Doom 64 is a greater horror-themed shooter, it's the best original horror game on the console by far. Then there's Castlevania, which most folks will say isn't any good. Hybrid Heaven has some survival horror elements, but I wouldn't really consider it a horror game.

Get the goggles by the tree at the right of the house at the beginning. Using it costs 10 brain meter and marking a point uses 50. Marked points (the blue orbs) can either be, traps, fights, items or nothing. If you mark a trap and activate it then you get some meter back. If it's a fight then you'll get brain meter back for killing enemies or you can escape by mashing whatever the escape button is on the helipad. Also, if you haven't marked the fight beforehand your heart rate will go up. It also goes up from traps. If it goes up enough you'll faint in the next fight and if it goes too high you'll die of a heart attack. There's also a bleed meter that goes up when you get hit or start running when you're already bleeding.
If the meters at the top are going off then it means there's probably a trap around. The only one you need to worry about is the sixth sense meter though. If that one is going off then there's either a fight or an item hidden close by.
All that being said, a lot of it is trial and error even when you understand how the game works. The game is worth it for how insane it gets though.
