I didn't have the patience or focus as an ADD ridden adolescent for any of the games in the Metroid series, but now it's one of my favorites for sure. LoZ is also up there in games I never finished because of a lack of patience.

It always felt like a budget Link's Awakening, but I learned to love it. This and Metroid II.

Mega Man 64.
When I was a kid, I liked the world but I was too stupid to know how to circle strafe and got stuck on the Boss Rush that pretty much begins the game. After that, the game starts to really open up and you're allowed to explore vast underground caves and stuff. Whenever I'd play, I'd get to a bit before that part at the latest and just lose interest and quit, then occasionally return to start a new file and lose interest and quit again. One time as a teenager I got past that part and the game immediately hooked me with the feeling of being lost underground, holding tons of valuable treasure but desperately unable to find a way out. Escaping the cave felt like coming up for air. It was great. After that, I beat the game. And beat it again. I think I beat it four or five times that summer.

Nearly every NES game I ever played as a child felt impossible. Hard to say that I liked any of them. However, as an adult Super Mario Bros. 3 and Castlevania are two of my fave games. I feel like the NES was the worst console generation for younger kids. Hell, even the Intellivision was better for having fun.

It may not look or play as nice as Awakening, but holy fuck does it ooze with SOVL.

I'm not sure if it was my gorilla brain as a child or what but I just straight up did not have a good time with Majora's Mask. Then I played it again when I turned 13 and it became one of my favourite games.

These particularly but really most RPGs. I hated how slow they felt as a kid and how the combat was like who the fuck just stands around while the other team takes turns but now I see the amount of depth they had if you were welling to stick with them.

Playing that right now, it's great fun. Shame there wasn't more GBA FE games. I've got physical copies of the romhack fan made games but I haven't played them yet

I still dislike many enemy designs, but it eventually grew on me, its a worthy game compared to the previous 2 and it has the comfiest 100% quest.

It’s a bit messy in places, the music isn’t as good and you can tell Rare’s obsession with collectibles was starting to set in but it’s a fine game. Might even be better than the first one in places

was just about to post about this. I hated FE as kid, a couple of days ago played through the first part of FE7 (10 initial chapters) and I still couldn't shake off the feeling that it would be a much better game if you could explore it while walking town like other rpgs.

Are there any worthwhile hacks of FE7 or FE8 to check out?

I can only compare FE to FF Tactics Advance, and FFTA does a better job of the story imo. Both are cheasy, but at least FFTA knows it, meanwhile the storyline in FE is so dull.
