Extremely original games, extremely low sales (after MDK). Why did gamers not appreciate their innovative games?

Also
>The "Entertainment" suffix was chosen because Perry believed that, should the studio attempt to co-operate with Hollywood film production companies, such companies would rather work with an "entertainment" company than with a "games" company.[1] Despite this precaution, Shiny was often mistaken for a pornography production company.[1]

I remember how much they hyped it up and then the game released in a sorry ass incomplete state.

One example was they recorded multiple voice takes so that each playthrough would be slightly different.

I know its standard procedure by now to promise the world during development only for the project managers to fck things up forcing the slaves to scrap and restart, crunch and rush, but this game was literally my first experience of that.

Yes still buttmad, fck shiny and that lying prick. Good salesman though, Ill give him that

>Who's the best Sacrifice god and why?

I played through Sacrifice fully twice and each time I went for a majority combo of Stratos/Charnel, with maybe 1-2 Persephone in between. Stratos and Charnel have my favorite units and favorite voice lines. My least favorite is either James or Pyro. James has good units but I don't like his personality, and Pyro has very boring and straightforward "I deal dmg" spells and units, his units only get interesting in the last two tiers, and he can only work together with Charnel and only for a little while, so you're forced to have mostly all Pyro units.

>>8243862
>Then genuine question, what's the meaningful difference between a fire low level spinny thing and a grass low level spinny thing? Not trolling, just trying to see what I was missing out on
I assume you mean the lowest tier melee units. I had to look up the "fire spinny" because Pyro units tend to have boring abilities, but its special ability is that when it dies it explodes and deal damage to nearby units. Not the best unit in this tier, that's for sure. There is no "grass spinny" - the spinning model is only reused for Charnel's T1 melee unit, which regains life with every attack. The grass T1 melee is a Druid who has a mana activated ability to shield himself - this is shared with most T1 Persephone units (she has the most boring units after Pyro). The biggest difference is James's T1 melee unit which is literally immune to all spell damage (straight up can't be beaten by a wizard except for maybe instakill spells) and Stratos's T1 melee unit which gets a superspeed active ability. And beyond the special abilities, every single unit, across every tier, has different individual stats.

See
https://sacrifice-shiny.fandom.com/wiki/Level_1_Creatures

And also, after level 2, they get different types of units at different levels (i.e. on L2 everyone gets the "Scarab"-type, but L3 is "Brawler"/"Sniper"/"Bomber").

>> No.8244070

>>8244041
>what's the correct way to play it? I found it impossible to manage units scattered across the map
I went through the game successfully with just using a deathball of units around my wizard, systematically taking out the enemy defenses one at a time. I never bothered managing units across the map, I just made sure to always get strong defenders at choke points and at places I don't wanna keep returning to (the leash thing that attaches a unit to the tower to boost its defenses, kinda like a tower). Just make sure you get a good Artillery/Sniper unit by level 5 or so, because otherwise you won't be able to keep up, the level 1 ranged units don't cut it - and you can't really use melee units/brawlers for the leash because they could get taken out even by level 1 fliers, due to the lack of reach.

Admittedly, like I said, I always played with Stratos/Charnel, so I had highly mobile units from Stratos and heavy hitters from Charnel, and healing from the L2 Persephone Scarabs, so I had pretty much everything covered from my unit composition.

>> No.8244152

>>8244041
Don't try to manage different moving groups. You have troops guarding manaliths and altars and a death squad with your wizard. Easiest way is to stay near the manalith currently targeted by the enemy and just turtle using the leash bonus and grab attacker souls until you have enough people for an attack squad, grab an enemy manalith and bind some of the death squad to it, rinse and repeat. This is a bit defensive an slow but works well even against Marduk (who doesn't need to convert souls before grabbing them).

James's Titan unit, the Rhinok, is the toughest, but also the slowest. Persephone's Dragon apparently deals the highest damage per hit, and the second highest HP. The potentially strongest is Charnel's Hellmouth, which can get stronger by eating blue souls. If they eat 5 souls (effectively doubling their cost) they can take out ~20 souls' worth of L7 creatures on their own and survive.

Just practice until you're decent at it. The game has a weird difficulty level: It's super hard when you're new to it and don't understand it, because it's so strange and unusual I guess, but its AI is pathetically bad to the point of being seriously bugged in the player's favor, so that once you do understand the game you can crush all opposition with ease (except human opponents in multiplayer mode of course).

It's a game that initially seems much more difficult than it is. Keep most of your stuff in formations around you and try lots of different units and spells until you find something that works. Restart and choose different gods if that helps. You can figure it out.

I think it's just random words from the game's list of standard spell-words. At least some of the words are references with no deep meaning. For example, all three of these words seem to be included in the list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaatu_barada_nikto
"Vermithrax" and "pejorative", also in the list, appear to come from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonslayer_(1981_film)
I think "carpe diem" is in there (as two separate words) and probably various other things.

Level of detail in games is 80s tech (outside of games its from 1976), most atari/amiga flat shaded 3d games like microrpose flight sims had it for example.

What Shiny made was much more specific, continuous lod (ie instead of swapping a fixed number of models you could say gimme that model with exactly X triangles) for skinned characters, and one that'd automatically prepare runtime models from full cg characters. They weren't the inventors of it either, just one of the earliest implementations in a game.
