Just beat this game, and I'm a little confused. What happened when the dragon woke up? Is everything really gone? How did Porky get god powers? What happened to the old world?

These are more up to your interpretation.
>How did Porky get god powers?
Earthbound provides this basis, but Porky's motives never were explored besides him being a spoiled kid. 3 makes him an interesting character, but again it's all up to you to interpret it.

>What happened when the dragon woke up?
I like to take the dialog at face value and say that the world was reshaped into the ideal version of society from its ashes, but we just can't see it because we simply can't grasp that concept at this time. There's also the theory that everyone died and what they're experiencing is the afterlife, but I'm not sure I place much stock in it (Porky'd still be alive for one thing). Supposedly, the 64DD/N64 endgame scenario was darker, so I think the ending text was added to the final GBA version. And there's an unused "HAPPY END" graphic that was probably supposed to be used after the ending text to let you know everyone's really all right, but it was probably deleted because it removed the uncertainty.
>How did Porky get his god powers?
There was that one Smash Bros. trophy that said Porky needed a whole game or several to explain what happened to him between games, but honestly, so does Giygas. Mother/EarthBound's never getting official interquels, much less anything beyond Itoi's trilogy, so really, it's up to you to figure out for yourself how a lot of the unsaid pieces fit together. There is a popular fangame (I think it was one of the pre-Undertale projects to have Toby Fox's MEGOLOVANIA) set between the first two games that attempts to explain Giygas, but to my knowledge there's no such thing for 2 & 3, go figure. I did see a pretty good fan-comic on Starman.Net once upon a time, but I'm not sure how easy it is to find, and I'm sure there's a couple by now.

>explain Giygas
That would be a pretty difficult job seeing as Giig is very different in 1 and 2. 1 may as well be non-canon to 2 and 3, because EarthBound was essentially a very loose remake of 1. That being said, I miss the setting of 1 and 2. The setting of 3 is way too basic-bitch for my liking. Going from cool space invasion in an urban setting to cringe fantasyland collect the 7 ancient dildos before the evil empire does is a big downgrade imo. Since Giig was Mewtwo in a rocketship in the first game I doubt it's going to be explained.

2 is literally subtitled "Gyiyg Strikes Back!" in Japanese, and similar themes =/= remake.

The localization erased what few ties to Mother 1 there was and acted as if Earthbound was totally standalone. Magicant got spared because "magic world of your mind" was vague enough to not need any explanation of how Mary created a similar realm first.

>The localization erased what few ties to Mother 1 there was and acted as if Earthbound was totally standalone.
That was because the Mother 2 translators were under no obligation to call back to the then-canceled Earth Bound, with the only thing consciously carrying over from the previous localization being the name EarthBound; if they had any idea it was going to eventually be un-canceled or that the series was goingbto have a cultvfollowing certainly they would have been more careful with certain intentions.

Mother 2 didn't really have any ties to Mother 1 though other than the title, magicant is completely different in both games.

The planet just reset itself to when it was just a ball of dirt and during a time when the sun didn't revolve at that hemisphere yet. yknow how the logo is revealed to be made of wood now? that just implies everything's back to old times with log cabins and such, and technology is dead before someone finds a way since they remember it. im pretty sure this was done to avoid being direct-sequeled

>How did Porky get god powers?
I'm pretty sure he was cursed by Giygas. and/or because he traveled in time a lot to the point that the chronological powers that be granted his body to age, or that's his future self having time-traveled to the point you meet him after years of gaining/developing said powers somehow

By the way, I'm interested why Shigesato Itoi doesn't want to make another game about MOTHER. Is it because no more ideas, or because it's too forced to keep doing it?

I don't know if you realized it, but the games were increasingly more hellish to develop. Mother 1 was lucky because the biggest hurdle is that Miyamoto didn't see the appeal dhen Itoi pitched it to him and made him cry that night and almost give up (asshole). Mother 2 took five years to develop and was constantly under cancellation threats until Iwata joined the team and cleaned up the code. Mother 3 took nearly twice that long and had a really troubled development, first targeting the Super Famicom and then transitioning to 64DD ambitiously despite the devs being inexperienced with 3D, then attempting to condense the plans into a smaller N64 cartridge after the 64DD went belly-up, ACTUAL cancellation, then quietly revived on GBA (presumably closer to what the SNES version would've looked like). Not to mentioned the troubled English localizations, with only Mother 2 (EarthBound) releasing back in the day with a weird ad campaign that nearly sent the game to obscurity. With that kind of luck, who knows what problems a Mother 4 might have? "Oddity", which started out as Mother 4, is one way it could turn out, being in development hell too for its own reasons. Ultimately, Mother, as niche as it was, is too big for Itoi to continue for several reasons, namely that he's frankly got other things to do as Mother was really his personal experiment into game development.

I like that its just 3 games with huge gaps of unexplained story between them. Its more fun to not have every single thing explained and I cant even imagine what a modern Mother game would look like.

>What happened when the dragon woke up? Is everything really gone?
It's ambiguous, up to you really. Probably the end of the world, that the magypsies had some gaps in knowledge.
>How did Porky get god powers?
Him actually obtaining as much power as he did happened during the events of Earthbound, but it's never explained how he actually got so powerful. What actually happened inbetween the events of EB and Mother 3 was that Porky started travelling through time and space somehow after Giygas went down and because something something time travel fucks you up something something he aged a ton but became immortal.
>What happened to the old world?
Earthbound's society collapsed sometime after Giygas went down and the world ended somehow, can't remember if it were an apocalypse or something akin to Mother 3's ending but it doesn't really matter. The Nowhere Islands was the only remaining habitable place on the planet due to something about the dragon's powers so the survivors of the ordeal decided to wipe their memories and start a brand new society without commerce, money or many other things present in the previous society. All had their memories wiped except Leder, the tall guy ringing the bell in the town centre, he kept an account of what happened before the new society began inside that shiny egg Duster went to find in chapter 2.

He's also stalking Ness and co. as seen with the home movies he makes. It was pretty creepy, I wondered if Porky defeated and tortured Ness and his party endlessly with his mastery of time until the world ended and Mother 3 started.

Probably cause he just ran out of ideas. None of the games were very original really, they're mostly liked because of the tones and humors which aren't anywhere as uncommon today as they were during the SNES and NES eras.
Like he said, it's up to the fans to make 'their' mother 4 now. And it's called Undertale and is really good.

>What happened when the dragon woke up? Is everything really gone?

Up to interpretation. Personally, the wording of how the dragons will shape the world after the heart of the one who pulls it seems like a meta take on (you) as the game explicitly asks if you are sure prior to pulling the final needle. What does the new world look like? Only (you) know, thats why its black - you are supposed to fill in the blanks yourself. The ending is whatever you imagine it will be.

>How did Porky get god powers?

Porkys constant time travel has irreversiably fucked his body into a state of perpetual stillness. I could see it being a side effect of too much time travel in the Mother universe. I always imagined there might be a connection to the vines frozen in time blocking you in the last bit of chapter 7 in how they are literally indestructible since they no longer experience time. I imagine Porky is sort of like that.

>What happened to the old world?

Destroyed at the hands of humanity. Nuclear war, plague, natural disaster, it doesn't matter - The white ship survivors simply washed their hands of it and tried starting over.
