You are going to enjoy the whole thing and be frustrated/wanting more at each ending. You should play or at least watch a let's play of blood omen tho ! Playing in release order for this saga has a special feel to it ! Also checking the dreamcast version of soul reaver is worth it too. Man I love this saga.

some good lore and atmosphere, great story even as sparingly as it's used. pedestrian action adventure gameplay with some jarring cut content.

I was not particularly a fan of 2, a lot of time travel hijinx and retcons that just came off as a bit lame, a lot of time spent discussing magical mcguffins the game gives you no reason to care about.

True, most anons just parrot their real hardware mantra without even playing games ! The dreamcast one had new models and textures the pc didn't ! Also it was hard to get controllers working correctly on pc version. Psx is great, emulation is great, the game is great.

Yes.

I enjoyed the first one more than the second, it felt more "open", lots more optional content (glyphs etc), SR2 is a harder sell, combat is a slog with enemies having more attack options than you. Elemental forges are kino though. Game feels overall unfinished.

Defiance is more fun than SR2, but suffers a lot for not having an equivalent to the temples from 2. Voice talent is clearly having a ball.

I want to play Soul Reaver. But it bothers me knowing that a lot was cut and it's an unfinished game. Does it feel unfinished, or is it not obvious?

It has a cliffhanger but they do enough for it to be a somewhat reasonable transition into a sequel. The main path laid out for you in the beginning doesn't have any omissions, you confront all your vampire brethren. It's mostly side content and world building that's omitted.

Except Turel and the entire last part of the game. It gave birth to an awesome series, but I wouldn't call it 'side content'.

SR2 is arguably the worst game in the series because it's 90% puzzles and the puzzles tend to be really lame. Still, it has my favorite exchange of any game in the story
