Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 are probable, but not definite, could just as well have been Duck Hunt, Tom & Jerry, TMNT, Batman, Megaman, or Fester's Quest. We had maybe 28 games for the NES

I'm typically bad at picking favorites, but I'll say Doom with confidence. Doom and Doom 2 are great games at their cores, as well as what people have made with them in all these years, as well as what I can make for it myself.
Fun gameplay, and a great heavy metal/horror aesthetic which has just always appealed to me.

I even like Doom 3, in spite of its flaws (some which are considerable). The uh, new Doom games are pretty ok I guess, but they could be a lot better. There's however many other games and series I'm very fond of, many mentioned in this thread as well. Things like Duke Nukem 3D, Diablo, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, Super Mario 64, and various Castlevania games.

Yeah actually, at first I was very skeptical because it was first shown off as an april fools joke (even made this meme while I was kind of salty about not getting another beat-em-up), but I was pleasantly surprised at the way they handled the entire system, my only gripe with it is you end the game pretty low level for jrpg standards, so grinding for max level becomes a chore.

My favorite game changed over the years. Prior to LoZ, my favorite game would have been fairly temporary. I played a lot of games in the 90s and there are many great ones. But I kept coming back to X-Wing and TIE fighter and always enjoyed them right up through the late 90s. I would say the NES is more "Iconic" but you could still really feel the limitations of the hardware for most games, outside a small handful of well-polished 90s games like Kirby's Adventure. SNES was everything people liked about the NES, but better. More colors, more sprites, faster scrolling, better sound effects and music. The SNES peak was also the peak of 2D dominance in the game industry.

As for Sega Genesis, it looks to me like SNES is has more popularity with late millennials and younger kids for whom the console was always at least a generation behind. For people who lived through that era it's probably more of an even split with only a slight edge to SNES. And I'd guess this is for two reasons

1. SNES has more famous series that people are interested to go try (Mario, Metroid, Mega Man, Final Fantasy). Nobody cares about the vast majority of retro sports games and Altered Beast is decidedly niche at this point.
2. Maybe this is just me but I can't find a good emulator for Genesis that doesn't crash and fuck up my display. NES, SNES, PSX, N64, even PS2 all have usable emulators. MAME doesn't give me trouble either. But every Genesis emulator I've tried fucking sucks.

The Wii. I really wish I had collected physical games for the Wii.
