I was curious to see what /vr/ has in their collections, please no files/folders just carts, consoles, controllers, and physical items.

My collections have been lost time and time again, from old friends stealing to parents giving stuff away, to family breaking them so my collection is lacking and i'm basically scavenging what I can from the cheapest places I can go and getting it slowly back. I'm embarrassed to share mine, but know theres others with huge collections and even starting out collections and would love to see where you guys are at and love to hear the stories of the games you looked the hardest for and finally found. Or the stories of your past collections you had and why you no longer have them.

I collect for nostalgia and my son. So, what makes you collect and keeps you collecting?

Show us your Gamer Caves/Walls/Shelves etc.

I know my collection is terrible and doesn't even compare to the massive ones I know /vr/ has.

>> No.820801

I would share mine, but it's a bit of a mess at the moment.

It's two 1x2 meter bland shelving unit. One half is Sega+PC games, the other half is Nintendo, Playstation and everyone else.
Currently connected TV : Megadrive, Dreamcast, SNES, PS1, N64, X360
On shelf : Amiga A600, Spectrum, NES, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Xbox, PS2, 2600.

>> No.820837

I need more space / a better way to display my collection, so no pic til I clean up. I collect for nostalgia. I own the following: A dmg gameboy, a grape gbc, a white gba, a silver gba sp, a light blue blacklit gb sp, a nes, snes, 2 n64s (one was $5 at goodwill), $ FAT PS1S, 1 PSONE, PS2, 3 soft modded original xboxs, a fa and slim ps2, a sega genesis, dreamcast, 2 gamecubes with gameboy players,a game gear. I think that's all. I have found most of these items at goodwills.

>> No.821086

My collection is about 40% in boxes, 60% in literal piles in my office. I keep everything nearly in arms' reach so if the rare mood strikes me to play a game, I won't kill the mood by having to fish through the closet or basement for the system and games.

I collect because my childhood was ruined by abandonment, abuse, an being homeless. Doesn't work, but I have to burn the money I save by not being a drug addict SOMEHOW.

there's an original NES box on top of the shelves here but now that I realize it's cit off I cba retaking the photo. It's probably the best thing I own, and it's fucking cardboard.

I don't really know why I collect. It fills time and space I suppose, but I'm really quite minimal and and anti-materialistic. I started buying older games after watching AVGN and Spoony I think, and I just can't settle for emulators..

This is what I have in my closet right now. Half of my PS1 games are across the country and my N64, Wii and 360 are in my brothers room, and I don't feel like pulling his drawers apart.

There's like 40 GBA and GBC games shoved into that Pokemon bag, and 9 of my DS games were cut off. I'm hoping to find a nicer way to store them eventually.

It was pretty cool story. All purchased at a second-hand store. I caught a friend slipping, and snagged it before he did. I thought he'd be pissed, but he didn't know what it was worth, and we always talk about it, after I told him how much they go for, and he always tells me how he was glad I got it, since I'm the retro mogul of our group of friends.

It's really positive to have a good connection of friends who support you and don't get pissy or jealous if someone scores a sweet deal.

Anywho, this is the collection of games I scored with my recent Atari purchase. All told, got the 2600 and the games with 2 Pong set ups and 4 joysticks for about $30 from a Salvation Army.

these are the games i found for $2 each that caused me to make the plunge to actually buy the tg16. (the bonk game is actually bonk's revenge but that is the case and manual to the first game)

one thing i remember being told when buying a tg16: "make sure if you want any major accessories to get them when you buy the system"

that quite true considering how expensive those accessories can run.

Based on completed listings
hard plastic carry case: $100
tg16 2.0 system card: $33.95
tg16 itself: $100-150
tg16 cd system dock: $100+
tg16 cd: $100+
Controllers: $10-20+

ebay sucks but i suppose it's not bad for a last resort.

Managed to get my whole collection in one picture, so I guess it's not much. Still I think it's got some quality to it. I used to have a lot more but like many others I had to sell things off. I stopped selling last year. The only things left that are original are the games Megaman X4, X Collection and Command Mission as well as the Megaman CDs and the DS and Star Force 3 (Japanese).

As you can see, I prefer handhelds.

Thanks for the comment. I'm in the process of buying/making bookcases for my new stuff.
I've been at it for a long time; a lot of the stuff I got from my father when he stopped playing. I started truly collecting on my own when I was around 12.
Additionally, everything there is alphabetized. What do you recommend I pick up in terms of essentials?

Pick a favorite console, and start from it.

Eventually, you can start buying other consoles you may enjoy for some variety. Buy plenty of peripherals, the weirder the better.

Be fast, because it all might end someday.

You sir have a very amazing NES collection. I soon hope to be even close to that. Once a paycheck comes i'll be splurging on some lots and getting respectable collection.

I've learned to talk people down, even retro selling stores. They say ebay prices and I talk them into selling it to me for the private collecting discount. Usually gets it 20-30% off the ebay prices they try to sell them for.

Retro games are very much barter and trade worthy. If you find multiples trade them for games you want for your collection.

I still buy anything interesting I come across if it's cheap, though I've noticed SNES games have somewhat dried up around here; rarely even see sports games at Goodwill. I haven't played SMRPG, in fact I think I've only played maybe 5 games in that photo. Never got around to playing anything.

More games ... I think I actually played ten in this photo.

I just buy whatever I find. This is a forced hobby for me, because it seems more and more that I'm anhedonistic. Why else would I have near SIX HUNDRED GAMES? And I don't mean my Steam library. Meh. My collection would be as mana from heaven (no I don't have a copy of Secret of Mana... anymore) to my twelve year old self.

Not to say that I buy every game I see... I often leave good games behind so that others can enjoy them, since I rarely play anything longer than it takes to record a "Play Until I Die" video for Youtube. Case in point:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVVi_MFITGQ

Mostly what I seek are accessories. Multiplayer adapters, link cables, odd controllers... just interesting stuff. If I didn't feel like pissed-on shit, I'd be taking more photos for the wiki, but fuck it for now. Anyway, here's a fraction of my console collection. About 3/4ths of it. Blurry because indoors and reflective shit in the focus point.

How hard is it to acquire a PSOne?
I really want to get one and relive my glory days as a Sonigger, and maybe play some drunken Crash Team Racing.
Like most people, I'd really appreciate not getting fucked by retro game shops, those damn leeches, so I was wondering if they're still easily found at flea markets and suchlike places. Or maybe you found yours somewhere else?

Because flea markets are usually a good place to find stuff like that, but, as time progresses, more and more stuff sadly goes into the trash, so I guess it really depends on the exact curiosity you're looking for. Do I stand a chance at a PSOne?
