The point of the matter is that the PSX has been giving me confusion from day one because I only knew about this before I learned about the Playstation's development codename.
BECAUSE the PSX can refer to a different console, it should probably be dropped on /vp/, especially since back then such a console didn't exist.

I'll be blunt: I know "PSX" is incorrect and was only partially based on the bios/codename of the console (actually PS-X), so it'd be like calling the N64 "Ultra", or Dreamcast "Katana".
but fuck it, I still use it because it's much cooler than typing PS or PS1. PSX gives it an extra edge imo. It sounds experimental and extreme. (even though it probably stands for eXchangeable)

But if definitely is. You can also find a lot of publications from all over the world that were still referring to the N64 as "Ultra", well after the system was released, it kinda stuck for a while.
In fact, at least Ultra 64 was a real name at one point and it even got a logo. PSX was always just a codename/bios title, Sony never did any official logo for "PSX", it was always just PlayStation.

Look man, it was not just large publications - it was corporations like Xtra-vision (a rental company like blockbuster here), it was videogame stores, most magazines - anywhere the name had to be abbreviated it would be called PSX, NOT PS1.

Why the fuck are you being so anal about whether Sony used the name or not? So if I call the Famicom Disk System the FDS you're going to say "that's incorrect, Nintendo never actually called it the FDS, they only ever said Famicom Disk System"? Language doesn't work like that. People can abbreviate it however they like and when enough authoritative people use a certain nomenclature enough that just becomes the or at least a correct way of saying it.
