Let's post recs for games with good cartoon-style visuals and animation.

It might be hard to imagine for a zoomer, but going from simple squares to actually a defined sprite that actually looked like the cartoon character from the TV show was mind-blowing in 1982.
This game made me feel like I was "controlling the cartoon".

Try to find any other games that had characters that looked actually like the cartoons in 1982. Especially on home systems.

So post a game from 1982 or earlier that looked actually like the cartoons. That smurf shit sure doesn’t.

How does it not? I can clearly see the hat, the shape of the head with the big ears and nose, the smile, the eyes, the pants and the big round feet. That looks like a Smurf alright.
Be aware that most other games of the era had "representations" in very primitive graphic forms. Here's how the game looks on Atari 2600. You can barely make the hat and the pants, but you have to use your imagination to see a Smurf there, that's how most games of the era were like. Compare it to >>8196651
That's why I said zoomers would have a hard time understanding, but if you use your brain, you will see what I mean.

I sunk 10 bucks on Thimbleweed Park like an idiot, but I'm glad it was such an obvious mess so at least people could finally stop pretending the first MI games were great because instead of DESPITE Ron Gilbert.

Anyway, MI3 is an ok game and the amazing production value more than make up for its shortcomings.

Thimbleweed Park was good. More creative puzzles than Monkey Island, honestly, although you need to play on hard or you miss a lot of content.

>> No.8199752

>>8199720
Obviously off topic, but I'm curious and it's been a while, can you give some examples of TP puzzles you found clever or interesting? Most of what I remember seemed to be almost a parody of the sort of menial fetch tasks that comprised the worse examples of 90s point-and-click shovelware; and honestly making the leap of faith of considering that intentional doesn't really do the game any favors. Some of the scenario setups are pretty good (I liked the ghost "mechanics" for example), but in the end the game barely delivers enough of a payoff for even those.

Honestly the fact that they had to implement conversation between playable characters as an update patch is a telltale of how big of a clusterfuck the game is in terms of storytelling.

Not that guy but one that really sticks with me is getting Willie to fix the watch. It requires multiple layers of puzzle solving, character allocation, and coordination.
You have to Position Ray in the radio station, holding the theremin record, Reyes by the cell, with the watch, and Ransome at the radio tower. Climb the tower with Ransome and flip the switch, then change to Ray and sneak into the control booth. Put the theremin record on the turntable and start transmitting it. Finally, change to Reyes and give the watch to Willie. It's a wonderful feeling getting it all to work together, and there are many similar puzzles throughout.

Yes. It's great.

Oh yeah, the multi-character Maniac Mansion-type stuff were the best bits; it's odd how an early entry in the genre got that sort of compelling complexity that got increasingly rare with more modern games
