Hey there /vr/. I'm NOT the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. Currently, the hack is close to being completed. I'm posting here rather than /v/ because this board moves a bit slower, and there isn't as much concern about the Thread being bumped out before it's too late, and there's things in /trash/ that I wish I hadn't seen.

Feel free to use the thread for discussion on the project and the few works-in-progress that need to be taken care of before release.

Maybe organizer will drop a new testing ROM ITT, that would be nice.

Yeah, I've felt for a while that the people are getting burnt out on the project. Not just from when they say it, but also from the slower activity of the threads. This hack would make for a fantastic sendoff, but if there ever is a /v/orld 4, I think 2023 would be a good time to start it, since that will be 4chan's 20th anniversary. But for now, I'm going to rest, having made levels and MIDIs and graphics.

Same. I made and tested more than enough levels for this, I hope the game will be finished soon so I can rest. I just hope it gets finished period. All this delay makes me worries, I've seen too many collabs taking forever to release or not releasing at all despite being 99% done.
I don't think there will be a /v/orld4 but that's fine. 3 SMW hacks was more than enough, all good things must come to an end. Well if one of you fags ever decide to make a /v/4 or another platformer romhack in the future I will always be ready to make levels for it.

I'm aware. Due to the No Yoshi mod, it shouldn't be possible for the sitting sprites to show up anywhere (as far as I'm aware) in this hack. Making them would require 2 all new poses for all characters, minus Luigi and Moot, that would be 40 brand new poses.

in general, if a level is long and difficult, there should be a checkpoint. they're especially useful if the halfway point feels natural, and it's just before a tricky area, eg my suggestion for wide bridge >>8146458
while Baseball Bash lacked a checkpoint, it's still a good level, in fact I wouldn't want to add one. but, checkpoints are a good idea more often than not. it's almost like the original devs for SMW knew what they were doing, and created a good game with a good engine behind it.
I haven't played Sadist Course EX yet, but it sounds like a checkpoint is needed.

anyone can learn lunar magic, it's easy. My first level I ever made was for /v/orld 2 and I began work on it after like 2 hours of figuring it out. It used custom music and background graphics (which I even edited a bit myself in yy-chr). The second level I made (also /v/orld 2) had 4 sublevels each with its own custom BG, 3 different custom songs, and used ASM (which you don't need to learn to code to use). Just watch this on one monitor and follow along or fiddle around in LM on the other. And besides, levels entirely without any asm can be awesome too.

I keep finding issues and nitpicks in my playthrough, which I'm documenting in the google doc (all that stuff on the bottom is me, for some reason it won't show on the sidebar). in particular, while my magikoopa boss came out awesome, there are adjustments I'd like to see, which I put up recently. I'll put the tl;dr summary here, you can see the rest on the doc.
>Tl;dr: this came out awesome, but difficulty should increase more gradually, so that after 2/5 hits, shot speed is between normal and fast, and reflected shells are normal speed, then the current fast speed kicks in at 3/5 hits. You could also do more with the sprite to differentiate the boss from the common enemies.
for the sprite, I suggested giving him red robes, or maybe a conical wizard hat (with stars/crescents).

I playtested again, and the rebounding shell seems to be about 2x faster. that has to be custom behavior (I don't remember anything like that in vanilla), so are you sure you can't modify it? also, the fast shot seems to be about 3x as fast. so if I'm right about this, you could set shell reflect to 1x and shots to 2x speed for 2/5 hits (or whatever the middle ground is).

Update: Everything was, to my misfortune, not working properly.
One of the attacks was not functioning correctly, and it has taken hours of contemplation to figure out why. In figuring this out, I have also realized that another attack was also malfunctioning, however I did not notice it, as the broken version actually becomes identical to another already-existing attack.
Both of these attacks now function perfectly as intended.

Unrelated to these events, after some strong consideration, I have decided to remove 2 attacks from the boss, as I have come to the conclusion that they are not of the quality I desire. There is currently a pool of 15 attacks that are chosen at random, which will bring the new total to 13.
They are just frustrating/tedious to play against. If it catches you off guard, it is very hard to react to. However, when you are aware of the situation at hand, it is very easy, and simply boring.

Just beat /v/orld 1 with save states in preparation for /v/orld 3. I managed to get every dragon coin and 3-up except the one at the end of Lunch with Pope Francis because I couldn't find a way to get to the left of the goal post. The first hack was way more vanilla styled than /v/orld 2 but there were a lot of cool set pieces and ideas for every level.

I assume that Bowser's Castle doesn't get counted on the title screen right? It says 45 levels for me. I also feel like the ghost house at the end of world 2 has to be bait because there was no way to get there even after I beat all levels.
