The Pac Land episode seemed a bit weak. The game itself seemed very shitty, and that's coming from someone who loved the PCE-CD game with the bizarre monkey. The segment with the claw machines seemed like something out of a horrific nightmare. Nevertheless, much love to all involved.

Just finished watching the Faxanadu episode. I think it was a lot of fun. This and the two Zelda episodes that started off this season really are up there with my all time favorites - though this game is a much more straight forward experience of course.

Can't believe Arino made it to the second to last boss without realizing you had to stay still for the shield to auto block enemy attacks. AD had to come in and explain it to him because King Grieve was giving him such a hard time. He never would've beaten him without that info.

Anyway, I'm not up to date on sub scene news, but provided not everything is in shambles right now, just like with the two Zelda episodes I predict that this one will get translated soon. It's a good one - and very easy to understand as well.

They do home ports mostly, so they could do Popful Mail or Ys ports. Falcom Classics was a 2 part series for the Saturn which had updated graphics and gameplay For YS1-2, Dragon Slayer, and Xanadu. For some reason they don't like these later remakes and instead tend to use plain old famicom versions.

It has the latest and most up to date versions of Dragon Slayer and Xanadu out there with improved sprites and smooth scrolling. Whether you want to play 1984 computer rpgs in 2021 is another question. They are positively ancient, but at the same time incredibly interesting in terms of the development of rpgs.

GCCX has played Fananadu (kind of a spin off of Xanadu that started as a port) and Dragon Slayer 4 (Legacy of The Wizard), so they're probably sampling what they consider the best games in the series.

If you look at the paste episode list, it says Ayako Yamanaka came on in Season 21. Things kind of went out the window at the beginning of last season because of the pandemic, so we don't know if they'll be doing any more trips. I think they had a couple fill-ins early last season before the trips stopped.

Blame the staff since they used the 'I hate Trump' scene multiple times including for the challenge scene at the start of the episode, the recap for the next episode, and at Messe. And they were the ones who translated it into English.
They knew exactly what they were doing.

They really over used her to an extreme degree last season, even overshadowed the AD who was getting hosed enough due to the pandemic.

This latest Super Wagyan Land episode got me thinking, is there any episode that you feel ever showed off Arino completely beating a game with his own strength, winning the challenge "for real"?
No urawaza, no infinite continues, no level selection, just Arino managing to "one credit" a difficult game from start to finish.

I can't even remember the last time I saw the challenge cleared letters appearing without thinking it didn't count for much, either due to the game's lack of difficulty or the crazy lengths of cheating allowed to make it clearable.

Since it's a currently popular IP, they likely included instructions to not bash the game as that could hurt the brand. Remember, GCCX is all done legally and has permission from the publishers for each game. It's also why the show is o hard to license.

It's fake too. When is the last time you laughed out loud because of some verbal joke or comment? It happens, but much more rarely than in JP variety shows. Normal people just smile, they won't burst laughing like it's the funniest thing they've ever heard. It's all part of the genki, you gotta be enthusiastic and present till the end when you work in Japan, even if it's 11:30 pm, your job barely serves any purpose and it's clear as day Arino won't finish the game.

There are a few times when something actually funny does happen, and you can tell their laugh is different and genuine. It's usually something practical happening in the room, like something falling or someone doing something unexpected.
