What games use or can be played with the numpad?

>> No.8171930

>>8171910
No one really uses or has time for the numpad. So why would anyone want to play around with it? There are a couple games where you can use the numpad instead of the arrows, but it doesn't work that well.
It's pretty basic, so it's not fun or useful. Most of what you'd use the numpad for is just better to use another peripheral with the game.

i use the numpad for literally everything that involves typing numbers
also, numpad movement was the successor of arrow-key movement, and the predecessor of WASD
it was actually very popular during the quake era ime

This is really nonsensical if you actually think about it. It's just a weird boomer meme that no one seems to have questioned for whatever reason. The number row is obviously faster than the number pad because you're typing with two hands instead of one.

Yeah. The optimal setup would probably be dual numpads.

Not really faster since your fingers need to travel larger distances. It's also easier to type number pads blind.

>> No.8174296

>>8174259
>Not really faster since your fingers need to travel larger distances.
This is another aspect to the meme that makes no sense once you actually stop to think about it. Eight of the ten numbers are covered by your fingers when using the numrow, while only five of the ten on the numpad can be covered at any one time. The furthest you need to move a finger for both is the same (one key), but you will have to shift your fingers more often with the numpad.

>> No.8174314

you need to hit enter (and often decimal point) too, just typing the numbers isn't enough.

>>8174314
Even accounting for this, it's not enough to offset the fact that for numbers you need to shift your fingers more than twice as often when using the numpad (two shifts for the numrow and five for the numpad).

>>8174337
They're not even using the numpad optimally. They're only typing with three fingers when they could be using five. This means a total of something like up to twenty finger shifts vs the numrow's two. You could be moving your entire hand to press the decimal point and enter keys on a second keyboard while using the numrow and it would still be faster.

Theoretically maybe but training the number row isn't part of typing classes and few people will take the time to learn it independently.
I could see some people in data entry taking the time to switch from numpad to number row.

>> No.8176815

>>8176795
Not worth it when the numpad is more efficient. It's not only the numbers themselves, but also the common operators near it. The top row is for typing numbers during normal text, but dedicated numerical entry benefits from a dedicated section.
