Nope, your car will handle horribly when it's badly damaged. The axle will be fucked, you'll probably lose a tire, the center of gravity will be shifted, and it will only stop moving when the drivetrain and engine are separated.

the best racer on the system by FAR is rallisport challenge 2 60fps, great physics, great speed, group b rally cars, its fantastic.

PGR and PGR 2 are the most overated games of all time and i'll never understand the love they get.

forza is boring as fuck

burnout 2 is FANTASTIC and imo the best in the series for actually being a racer instead of a gay crash sim with square tracks.

midnight club 2 is a masterpiece 1 player racer and very challenging, MC3 is also awesome but not quite as good imo, has more content though.

moto gp3 and 3 are very good if youre into bikes but pretty difficult, little more simmy than arc,

outrun 2

quantum redshift is the prime future racer on the system thats very hard. its no WO but its still worth a play

start with those but the absolute must own on the system and is exclusive is rallisport challenge 2.

RSC 2 runs better, looks better, better speed, better physics, WAY better courses with everything from track racing to hill climbs to ice racing to rally and is actually fun, burnout 2 also dicks pgr 2 aswell speaking of which here have some absolute madman wr from a dad who's been playing it for years. Evidently by being a psychopath like that, Icy Calm was always involved with crime, money scams and grifting schemes.
They don't actually like games, they like being authoritative, being treated like a weird cult guru and using young members for sex, money and web clout then discarding them. WHATS THE the appeal of this genre?

I get that sim-racers are kinda cool with all their engineering and tune up mods, gotta think A BIT --- but arcade racers seem pointless, and mindless, just memorize some fucken track?? why? is it just an ego boost for low achievers irl with?

I never understood the appeal of driving around in a circle, holding left and tapping the brake now and then.just to make the time number go down....driving is boring enough irl I can't imagine doing this virtual driving just to get a smaller time number. This is a gross oversimplification of oval racing. Tire wear, Car set-up pit strategy, drafting, dirty air, track evolution, dynamic track lines, etc. Oval racing is a lot more then just going in a circle.

>gotta think A BIT

lmao only a bit? last year when I was doing the coke 600 in iracing I had to constantly think about what my tire wear looked like, what my fuel looked like, calculate the best spot to pit under green flag, manage my tires for long runs, figure out what lines were best depending on my tire wear, all while 35 other guys are running the track, with guys right behind me or right in front of me I have to watch to make sure I don't get collected in their messes.

I know this is bait, but come on, racing is more complicated then you think

Not retro but fuck it, it mostly is:

I made up a custom Burnout Legends soundtrack to replace the less interesting songs with music from Burnout 3 (and two songs that didn't make it in from Burnout Revenge but would have rather had). Scope it:

Left in/Kept from Burnout Revenge:
Finch - "Ink"
Goldfinger - "I Want"
The Outline - "Shotgun"
Billy Talent - "Red Flag"
Junkie XL - "Today"
Morningwood - "Nu Rock"
Mindless Self Indulgence - "Straight to Video (KMFDM Remix)"
The Academy Is... - "Almost Here"
We Are the Scientists - "The Great Escape"
Comeback Kid - "Wake the Dead"
Yellowcard - "Lights and Sounds"

Swapped from Burnout Revenge:
The All-American Rejects - "Top of the World"
Unwritten Law - "F.I.G.H.T."

Swapped from Burnout 3:
Sugarcult - "Memory"
Reggie and the Full Effect - "Congratulations to Smack and Katy"
Finger Eleven - "Stay in Shadow"
Autopilot Off - "Make a Sound"
The Explosion - "Here I Am"
Letter Kills - "Radio Up"
The FUps - "Lazy Generation"
Atreyu - "Right Side of the Bed"

Here's the ISO if you want to try it out: https://sys.4channel.org/derefer?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Ffile%2Fd%2F1Opc4skv9PrghCDAJJcsZx7TwVz4_joxq%2Fview%3Fusp%3Dsharing

Which is flatout superior. Not only does it have moar content, double specials on each vehicle and a couple stat tweaks it also does a simple change that massively rebalances the campaign - it switches when you unlock the du monde and D-5 hondo. Getting the du monde in vietnam in the PS2 version is grade A bullshit as it is in no way suitable for the stage and is even worse in russian winter. You can also still do infinite speed drifting across in the GC version which is cool (seriously, nab the hondo and powerslide on ice and you accelerate infinitely).

I've got so, so many hours in smuggler's run 2 on ps2 and still love it to this day, though I emulate the GC version because of the points mention above. You can prise my disc from my cold, dead hands though.

Surely one of the best is Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 - large selection of tracks and interesting location of the tracks and a better representation of different weather conditions (roads on Japanese mountain passes plus you can choose between sunny weather, fog, rain or a big storm)

Lots of tuning and customization options (it's the only PS2 game where you can put a turbocharger in literally any car)

Quite a few cars to choose from (about as many as Gran Turismo 3)

As for the driving physics, they are at least as good (if not better) as in Gran Turismo 4

Fucking glorious because I can do at the same time 1) reminisce about the old days playing it on a 20" shitty crt and proclaim that is the One True Way to play and 2) run it on my 4k screen at framerates original hardware would never hit and get to relive the nostalgia....just better.

The real secret to /vr/ - and by extension /vroom/ - isn't old gud new bad. It is not longer being limited by the nuances of old(er) hardware. If I want the OG experience then nothing is stopping me, if I want to get the "omg imagine da future" experience with my game of choice I can. The only time I feel old is when zoomers do not grasp advice from the OG crowd into how game design has changed and often for the worse because the concept of a failure state has become taboo. Git Gud is a meme but its roots are within the idea of self improvement through learning of mistakes. I have a distinct memory of failing at the river city run in burnout 1 and - to use the vernacular - gitting gud to overcome the challenge. Racing games are especially suited to this as the rewards are maor speed, more dopamine and a real sense of progress. /vr/ is built on the fact that old games remain in existence and the passage of time is mostly irrelevant - vidya expands and if you wish to play MW2005 and call it retro do so and live happily.

tl;dr being old for vidya is a boon as actual old vidya doesn't vanish and you aren't constrained by modern games but modern processing power means unless you are an OG hardware purist (fair enough if you are) the old doesn't need to be as limited as reality says, but nostalgia does not.

very low i.q post, racing does appeal more to higher testorone and male dominant brains and im not memeing, because its raw logic, physics, calculation, controlling limits, multi tasking etc where as the female brain and higher estrogen seeks more relatable characters, fantasy, stories, drama etc.
Arcade racers are a different beast at high level, just watch that pro burnout 2 replay in the thread or look into the gear tricks used in daytona or any high level racing, it requires precision, constantly risking fractions of limits with perfect lines, speed in and out of corners, gear use, routing in brake use minimising where possible, maximising where beneficial, theres a reason good times take a lot of hrs and to say 50 hrs a track sounds nothing but when you factor in thats 50 hrs on something thats likely 2-3 mins long.. if you dont get it dont try just move on.

No ones arguing if it had that you tard, i as apparantly the only player demojnstrating the massive difference between 1/2 and 3 onwards, 1/2 are WAY more difficult, MUCH more about perfect driving and not crashing and near misses, they are different beasts and a good reason why 2 is the most popular among time triallers, this is fact.

On the subject at hand, the idea that you can't still have a blast with a shit racing game is just false to begin with.

Bunch of people in the 3D GBA thread didn't know you could drift in Top Gear Rally GBA because they assumed it was too primitive, which is both a little funny and very impressive that they're able to beat it. So I recorded some drifts in a couple of the driftier levels while I learn to adjust to MT. This game's track movement is very smooth compared to every other 3D racer on the GBA which is why I'm having a good time.

The other recording. A mirrored, gravel-tracked cliffside with the highest level opponents, the final race in the game. I don't think it's the hardest course but in less than two minutes of driving it has three "extreme" turns away from the cliff edge, which feels excessive. Wish it had more turns that were just regular "hard", but it does try to trick you several times with normal turns that are blind and aren't passable without either drifting or slowing.

When things go well it looks straightforward. These courses would be brutal without good drift game. When hitting something that isn't a car, you come to a dead stop like most games (can still win if good), and if you hit the obstacle with your side because you *almost* prevented the collision, it will spin you out over a few seconds and then also face you the wrong way (restart the race, it's over).

It will also fuck with a newer player by letting you pass each trio of races and unlock the next tracks even if you don't ace every single race. But you unlock the better cars by acing all races. This sends someone who isn't top level into the next races at an increasing disadvantage, making the game harder and harder without them knowing *why* because missed unlocks aren't shown anywhere.

You can't disrupt their paths, ergo they can't meaningfully be affected by the collision either, and it would just be fucking annoying to be trying to get around them, have these oblivious bastards ram you and being the only one screwed over by it, repeatedly. Your constant demand of a head-to-head is amazingly sad. Why bother when you're going to be such a cunt beforehand?

Look in the mirror, Cee. You do it constantly. Oh, and for the record, you posted some laptimes up here with the initials CEE, that's why I call you that. I have no interest in "shmups" and I have absolutely no clue who "Rob and Rick" are.

Never played "F-Queero", you stunted manchild. It's actually amazing how upset that series makes you. Everyone on here finds you pathetic for it.

>and let those of us who play these games get back to talking about them.
You can talk about games without constantly being an insufferable condescending cunt about them. Especially whenever someone posts a differing opinion, which is something you clearly cannot tolerate.

I definitely agree on the analog triggers. I can make do with digital steering, but I can't go without having the ability to control gas/brakes accurately. Of course they're a bit more useful in some of the games on the "simmier" side. On original hardware I just use the right analog for it now.

>> No.8211434

I played my fair amount of HW: Unleashed and it plays exactly like I tough. On the hardest difficulty, it's just boosting all the way to 1st and then doing a flawless run, like if it was Trackmania. There's no way to approach turns but drifting, which is as shitty as in the newer NFS games. Also, the faster way to go is to boost on turns exit, which means also slightly touching the wall. It's not really wallriding, but I don't quite like it.
It's a shame because I'm somewhat of a hot wheels fan and Milestone is from my country, so I though I was in for a good time.
