It's not weird if you first realize that D&D was and still is a fairly fucking terrible system and that they had no fucking idea what they were doing. D&D 3/3.5 are the best versions of it but they're still poorly designed. D&Ds strength was never in the system anyway, it was in the secondary goal after the whole war sim, which is people role-playing.

lmao @ those players constantly doing the kick attack. That's a sign that they're BUTTON MASHING.

SHadow over Mystara is possibly the only beat'em up in existence that discourages button mashing.

The best way to avoid getting the kick attack to come out in your combos (which is done by holding the button for too long) is

1) either be as fast as takahashi meijin

or

2) TIME your combo attacks. THis takes a lot of practice, but it can be done.

or

3) be a pussy and use autofire

#2 is your best bet if you don't want to be seen as a pussy like with #3.

Hey guys.

Very bad news.

Keep in mind, that this is coming from me, a guy who has been playing Shadow over Mystara ever since it came out. I can beat the game with every single character without losing a life. I know this game like the back of my hand. I wrote a good portion of the wikipedia article on this game especially concerning gameplay and character specifics. So, please, understand that I know what I'm talking about.

This release is complete and utter shit. Complete and utter shit.

1) The default filter is hideous. I mean absolutely hideous.

2) If you use the DEFAULT filter then you get slower frames.

3) If you remove the filters then you do not get pixel aspect ratio, which means ugly pixel art. Furthermore, it doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel like 60 fps. Unfortunately, most people will leave the game on the default filter and that may cause compatibility issues with people who are running without any filters because they run at different frame rates.

3) The guys at Iron Galaxy shamelessly copied quotes from the wikipedia article, word for word at times. LMAO

Wow, talk about a shitty release. Those retards at Iron Galaxy just massacred this game for the Western Hemisphere.

My advice for you:

Do not get this. I was hyped up about this release at the thought of playing with others online, but this release is just completely fucked up.

Stick with your Saturn copy.

Stick with MAME and GGPO/Kaillera.

Wait for the official Japanese release which is done by Capcom themselves, not some shit third-party group like Iron Galaxy who probably doesn't even have a single developer who knows how to play the game properly.

>> No.818137

>> No.818146

>>818137

Just download the mame version.

I never said to do ALL 3 of those things. Those were OPTIONS.

Fine, then. I'm not going to stop you. Go buy the Iron Galaxy release. The filters are seriously hideous, and when you use them you don't even get the proper frame rate. You don't want to use filters? Fine, turn them off and get non-pixel aspect ratio for squished pixels.

the elf tends to get hit more because she has the worst weapon reach out of ALL the characters.. REGARDLESS of whether you use a bastard sword or a short sword or the sword of legend. Her weapon reach remains THE SAME.

OTOH the magic-user rarely gets hit because
1) he has tons of spells, all of which are useful in crowd-clearing
2) his dash attack -> backdash "infinite" combo is very good and SAFE
3) he can cancel empty spell -> backdash repeatedly for invincibility. his backdash alone is godly
4) he has mirror image which he uses on enemies that are LIKELY to hit your character. thus he has no risk at all of getting hit on difficult enemies(bosses) that are LIKELY to hit your characters.

You're right though. the magic-user is more frail, but his style of play allows him to get hit less often.

>> No.819627

>Her weapon reach remains THE SAME.

Are you for real? That honestly can't be true.

She does have the best jumping downstab move in the game though and has a sliding attack (QCF+Attack) where as the magic user does not so reach shouldn't be that much of an issue.

One more.

Notice how the hitbox does not cover the Slash effect? That's why that move whiffs so damn much. This is why the elf needs to be closer to the enmies than any other character when it comes to melee, and THAT is why she tends to get hit more.

Now.. if she had faster walking speed than the other characters (as is typical of female characters in beat'em ups) then that would make up for her short reach but EVERY single character has the same walking speed.

HOWEVER, on the plus side, her attacks typically come out about 1-2 frames faster than the other characters. but it doesn't make much of a difference.

(also, the magic user's dash attack comes out at 7 frames. which is the same number of frames for the fighter's normal slash. that's why it's so fucking good, and can be used in "infinite" combos when combined w/ the backdash)
