I've played guitar for 20 years and picking with either picks or your fingers requires more precision than fretting does, IMO. Dexterity is definitely more required for fretting but getting the feel for where the strings you want to pick are in difficult picking passages still gives me more trouble than just about anything fretting possibly could.
