I was really fond of Bully when it was newer and went back to it for the first time this year. I was really worried it was going to not hold up because it's an ambitious late PS2 game and I thought it would show. Turns out though: Bully is a fucking masterpiece.

Between Bully and RDR 1-2 I really get the impression that Rockstar either doesn't care about GTA since SA or just treats it like cash cow, not without reason, and puts in bare minimum.

I must be missing something.
I bought it earlier this year on sale after hearing how fantastic the game is, but quit when I got around 3/4 of the way through, I just wasn't enjoying it in the slightest.
The combat was very simple, I never really needed to use any of the weapons I unlocked, and I didn't find the missions or story particularly interesting.
I'm not trying to say the game is bad or people shouldn't like it, I was just really disappointed because I was expecting a game I'd really enjoy, considering I enjoyed the 3D GTA games from the era.

Bush era consveracucks said that a game with a school setting would lead to school shootings, being published by rockstar didn't help either. You could also kiss other boys with a glitch, although San Andreas's coop mode on ps2 already let you do this by pressing L1 when close to one another.

I think I really liked the driving and the progression of weapons in GTA. Starting out with limited stuff like pistols and Uzi and then getting better stuff (especially in Vice City).
I also enjoyed the secrets more, like getting hidden packages felt more rewarding with weapons at your hideouts for example. Or doing ambulance missions to get infinite run etc.
Bully I never used any of the weapons and the hand to hand combat was much better than GTA, but I found it kind of dull regardless since there wasn't much challenge or need to do much different from the usual combo. On that note, what was the point of the rubber bands? I collected a bunch but it never seemed to unlock anything incrementally, and I didn't have the desire to try and find each and every one to see what I get.
There also were a few missions I liked in Bully (like attacking the nerd's compound was pretty fun), but for the most part they seemed quite linear and simple. Not to mention the story didn't seem to make sense? I don't know if this is a Scholarship Edition thing with extra content but you'd be working for the preppies to get respect then immediately turn on them.
Not to say that GTA didn't have boring missions too, but I felt more of them were varied or exciting.

Rubber band ball, great for causing chaos in the boys' dorm, especially with the unlimited ammo cheat.

I hole-hardedly disagree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

i haven't played bully in a lifetime but from what i remember of the original game the preppies reached out to you first but things go sour when gary turns them on you (he brings up an inbred joke that jimmy makes about them in the beginning which ironically turns out to be true as the leader of the preppies, darby is dating his cousin) and you making moves on pinky (darby's girlfriend/cousin) during the arc doesn't help smooth things over.

if you want to talk about parts that don't make sense try the nerds turning on you. you spend the better part of the game helping them out when they needed it and they practically spit in your face for almost no real reason. that whole section just felt like they realized that they didn't have a proper nerd arc and decided to shoehorn it with the jock arc.
