I guess I can't argue with opinion. But GE was a very shallow game compared to PD. Perfect Dark has a much stronger story, and it actually tells the story. Goldeneye's story is a paper thin retread of the movie.

Also, Perfect Dark has all of GE's best multiplayer maps, and all of GE's best weapons included as bonuses.

Goldeneye's multiplayer was tacked on in 6 weeks.

Rareware didn't make multiplayer games. They made singleplayer games with multiplayer tacked on.

They didn't delay Perfect Dark for ages, they didn't rebuild the entire game from the ground up after 1998... just for multiplayer.

Perfect Dark is a singleplayer, story-driven FPS. With multiplayer features. Multiplayer should always be secondary.

That's one of the reasons, unfortunately, people talk about Perfect Dark "aging badly". They judge it's multiplayer against Call of Duty. There are people who never even finished the singleplayer. (Just as there are people who never played the singleplayer in the Call of Duty games.)

I appreciate that you enjoyed the multiplayer, but it wasn't the focus of the game. And I think the overemphasis on it reflects badly on the mindset of modern gaming.

>> No.815798

GE had much better and more satisfying gunplay. It was more shallow overall compared to PD, but nothing PD had to offer really went above and beyond... It was just overall a really good package. But if you just wanna gun down a bunch of dudes, GE is miles ahead. For everything else, well... PD isn't really the best cyberpunk narrative-driven stealth/action game out there...

It's true, though. Less focus on action and gunplay made Perfect Dark a slightly less enjoyable (but more substantial) game than Goldeneye. I would say Perfect Dark is more accessible nowadays, though, because a lot of people might have trouble adapting to the controls if they've never played an N64 shooter.

Even when it came out, it wasn't particularly as well-received as people would expect, especially when compared to Goldeneye.

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer. Amazing game, technologically, and was the first Factor 5 game for the N64, IIRC. It's also the only Factor 5 game we can emulate properly.

It does have a less than stellar framerate, IIRC, of about 22fps or something. Running it on an emulator with CF1, it runs at 60fps, which is nice.

But yea, amazing game. Real sense of speed, and a good job capturing the atmosphere of the (less than well recieved) film.

As a videogame, Nuts and Bolts is very good. It's *different* to the old Banjo games, but that doesn't make it bad. It's a change in genres, basically.

This is the same dispute people have with the "Old Resident Evil is better than new Resident Evil." The newer games are a different genre. So you're entitled not to like them. But that doesn't mean they're shitty games.
