probably the most fun I had playing this game: lying my way through the Iron Throne without a single drop of blood spilled.

w-what game is this? I love games where I can talk my way out of things.

Baldur's Gate 1

although it's only sometimes, not all the time. But that part was the best I've seen.

if you want a game where you can do that, better with traditional games like tabletop dnd with high Charisma...unless there's vidya out there that I'm not aware of that let's you do that a lot in a game.

Balder's Gate.
> I love games where I can talk my way out of things.
In that case, try any of the cRPGs from Black Isle back in the late 90s early 2000s such as Icewind Dale 1&2, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1&2, or even Deus Ex

I've played Fallout and currently playing Fallout 2. I've heard of Baldur's Gate but I haven't actually seen screen shots of it. So what game should I start off with after beating Fallout 2? BG? I heard Planescape is really good. Don't know about Icewind Dale and haven't checked out Deus Ex.

Really? It's been like 10 years since I've played this, but I don't really remember any fallout-esque speech options that allow you to bypass battles.

Please go into more detail, sire.

also, do you need a CHA requirement or anything like that?

speaking of fallout-esque stuff. How's Wasteland? Hear Fallout is the spiritual successor to it.

no, it was just at the bottom; your character can act really slick by lying his whole way through that building. It's pretty neat. I wish I could give more detail but I already just did it and saved over it sadly.

So there's not a lot of instances where you can use speech? I know there's not a lot of it in Fallout 1. But there was enough to make it a useful skill to have.

Why would you even reply to him? Honestly.

Anyway, there's a mod for NWN 2 that recreates BG1 + TotSC

BG1 is all about summoning dozens of monsters, then hasting them all and sending them after the enemies, while your characters sit back and shoot arrows (which are the best source of damage in the game)

>>809286
Pretty much, I wish summoning wasn't nerfed so badly in the second game though, having a small army of low level creatures was uniquely interesting, if broken against non mages.

I really do prefer BG1 to SoA.

SoA throws mountains of quests at you if you so much as take a walk around the city. You can lose two or three party members at the same time that way, to major quest events (Jaheira gets cursed, Nalia's ass of a fiance, etc.). At some point it also becomes Mages: The Game, where combat takes a shift towards protecting your spellcasters while whaling on theirs.
BG1 might start slow, but it's much more even-paced, and the consequences for your actions are both less forced and more dire. The party members are also somehow less insufferable. And while Sarevok may be an overall inferior villain to Irenicus, he was still very, very good.

The only complaints I have are that there's no real high-level content in BG1, and ends roughly at level 8. Tutu helps, though going to Watcher's Keep at level 8 is a death wish.

>I wish summoning wasn't nerfed so badly in the second game
It was nerfed because the tactic you're referring to is a game breaking exploit. You were supposed to use monster summoning to attack enemies, not complete immobilize every enemy in large groups of sprites to confuse the AI.

Getting rid of that shit was one of the many reasons BG2 is a better game. Black Isle learned from their mistakes.

I agree.

Also Jaheira and Imoen were way hotter.

>> No.810059

>>810047
The game is still entirely cheesable, notably through pathing and fog-of-war awareness. In fact it's much easier to do than summoning an army. Hell, it's how I beat the game - no way was I taking on Sarevok, Tazok and three mages at the same time.

>> No.810061

>>810054
Jaheira maybe, but I liked Imoen better in BG2, the MUH TORTURE notwithstanding.

So you think a game presenting you with a challenge is a good excuse to use exploits. Did you also brag about using Game Genie as a kid?

>So you think a game presenting you with a challenge is a good excuse to use exploits
No, you clown, I'm saying such exploits are still totally doable. I could argue with you all night about where to draw the line.
I forgot to mention it was also done on the BG2 engine.

Is Khalid the most beta NPC in any CRPG?

>> No.811162

>>810045

ive always thought this too.

ive played through BG completely three times or so since it was released,

ive started BG2 four or five times and can never get myself to finish it. it just doesnt feel like an adventure anymore, more like just a get-quest-and-finish-it game.

>> No.811331

Not really a group member per se, but Mud from Gothic follows you around and bothers you until you knock him down or kill him.
He flees from every monster you encounter at twice the speed that you can run.

Hey everyone,
I am downloading Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition at the moment. Or should I download original version?
It will be my first time playing BG1. Any tips?
I will be able to create my party? Party Suggestions?
Paladins are best choice if I want to make character with high CHA skill?

>> No.811758

>>811653
EE is adequate, nothing more.
>Any tips?
Pause often. Read spell descriptions carefully. Play to every character's strengths. Archers archers archers.
>Party suggestions?
For the full BG experience, pick up almost everyone you meet, throwing out the ones you don't like. It helps to have at least one thief and one cleric, though. Don't make your own full party until you know what you're doing.
>Paladins are best choice if I want to make character with high CHA skill?
Any class can have high charisma, it's just important for paladins.

Planescape: Torment is probably your best bet if you want to be able to talk your way out of stuff. I think there's only around five or six required fights during the entire game that there isn't any way of avoiding.

Now play BG2 with a monk SOLO. google up "monk solo faq" or something like that. lots of good information on monk mechanics.

for instance, the monk does 1d20+4 damage, not 1d20 damage like all those retards on the EE forum believe.

What's the lowest you've ever gotten a character's THAC0?

>> No.812006

>>811653
Get the original version. EE's additions are complete and utter SHIT.

Also, AD&D is unforgiving at low levels. You will die a lot. You will die all the time. Ranged attacks are king, and crowd control spells are OP as fuck. Use autopause for the love of God.

>> No.814430

>>812006
Hey, the colour scheme of the EE UI is an improvement. It's just the rest of it which is bad.

>> No.814475

>>811905
Past a certain point, THAC0 stops mattering. Once you reach -10 or so, you almost never miss. I'm guessing you could go as low as -20 with a few buffs.

The real question is: how low can you get your AC to? I think -50 would be possible with a Blade using Defensive Spin + Bard Song + Greater Evasion + Blur + Improved Invisibility + -2AC armor + 5AC shield and other odds and ends.
