Can we have a Japanese retro computers thread?

Looks like no one's interested. shame. I really love the MSX and it's series of games, they're even better than the stuff you typically see on the c64 and whatnot.

What games do you play, OP?

>> No.811479

>>811468
Not OP but for the sake of the thread, the only MSX game I've played was Metal Gear.

Pretty darn good actually.

Illusion City.
Literally the only Turbo R exclusive worth playing.

Turbo R has Vay, but the Mega CD version is just as good.

Pretty comprehensive intro to japanese computers...indeed the final frontier (lots of porn though).

Is there a translation available for this or am I able to get through it with only supplementary knowledge of Kana?

Help a nigga out

>> No.812261

There is a translation.
Here you go, disk images already patched and good to go:

Use BlueMSX and set the machine type to MSX Turbo-R and you are ready to go! Quite a stellar RPG, excellent pixel art, too. In fact, the title screen is the first image of the pixel art thread thats up right now.

I just realized it's a Microcabin game, developers of Xak, Fray, and several other neat titles that I've liked. So awesome.

OP here. I'm working my way through that Disc Station collection that was on UG before it died. It's really good, the discs themselves seem to have been bundled with magazines by Compile and includes more than games/demos such as music and articles. It also had Madou Monogatori for both MSX & PC98

>> No.813786

>>812186
Why do you say it's Turbo R exclusive? Is something wrong with the Sega CD version?

Did you find any good gems? Can you read Japanese? It always bothers me how in some games the cut-scenes move on way too fast.

Also, I have like 12gb of the stuff.

Yes most of the time I try to read the text it goes too fast so most of the time all I can read are the commands with my limited command of moon i.e. just kana

Well, if you need help with some commands, I can help you.
I actually never dug far too deep in my PC98 folder because a lot of the games are outside my level.

Is there some way to play these games on PC with mouse? Or even with touchscreen on Android devices for that matter?
I've been playing the PC-Engine version of Dead of the Brain because someone recommended it in another thread, and it's kinda fun, but the controls suck, moving around a cursor with a d-pad is a hassle.

>> No.814038

>>813885
Does the PC-Engine not have a mouse peripheral? If you're emulating check the emulator under input.

Really nice read. I'm frankly really pissed at what the Western gamers did by selling off all those doujin games without the Japanese gamer's consent. Fucking assholes........

Im playing through the Mega CD version of this game. I recommend reading the manual if you want to actually understand the lore, because most of it it's not explained in the game, there are also some japanese sites with info on the characters.

Lightning Warrior Raidy. It's got a remake for the PC but I was curious and tried the older games. It's a pretty mediocre dungeon crawler when you beat the clothes off monster girls.

Sounds like Rance. Is it first person like Might & Magic?

The dungeon crawling in it are in first person but there is the occasional CG which shows Raidy.
I haven't played any Rance beside Sengoku so I wouldn't know how to compare the two.

Needless to say but the remake looks a LOT better.
