/vr/ - Retro Games

Is that all one game or is it several? The filename and image similarity makes it a bit confusing as I don't know those games.

The thread concept makes me think of that German Amiga RPG which has you control multiple parties across a continent which takes some absurd amount of real-world time to explore and complete. It was in a /vr/ thread recently, and after looking it up, it seems the game makers had just enough money to pay for an English translation and then they basically went bankrupt, putting out only a small number of English copies. It's freeware that's encouraged to be downloaded now, is the other bit that I gleaned. Just wish I could remember the title. Feel like it was "Gates of [something]" or a name like that.

These games certainly aren't comfy, but most of the game play is "dungeon" crawler. Combat sequences are isometric.

In RoA you need to constantly monitor food supplies of your party, and make sure to wear warm clothing when crossing mountains. It's very easy to get sick and die. This game is a constant inventory and stats micro-management. Following character stats is like doing taxes. And it's just tip tip of the iceberg. Nah, they don't make games as hard today. If it would still appeal to a modern gamer is a whole different story.

Not him but 99% of the time obscure games have "deep rich mechanics" the AI is too retarded to actually use them so it has to cheat like hell. Then the vast majority of the mechanics and intricacies of the game literally do not matter, because you have to fight against an opponent who brute forces everything every single time.

There's also a sequel/prequel called Seal of Evil. I never played it myself, but I've heard that it's better. The soundtrack is certainly good at least.

The only time normies retroactively ruined a retro game was WC3's remaster forcing everyone who owned WC3 to use the remaster engine even to play the old game. Even then you can still pirate an older copy.
