Nintendo officially said the reason they won't make a new F-Zero is because they can't find a way to innovate it, so they won't. It's a bullshit reason considering the double standard for Mario and Zelda, but that's the line they're sticking to. "We've done all we can do with the franchise, there's nothing new left."

I have doubts. The futuristic racing game genre died out in the mid aughts. They could make something toned down for kudos for reviving a franchise, but I doubt it has the mass market appeal for a true modern gen game success.

Last new one (non-collection) was as a launch title for PS Vita and we all know how that went. Before that you have to go back to 2008, 2007 and even then it was mobile and remake stuff, not mainline big hits.

That's all they had to do, either remaster F-Zero X or GX with those features.

Use Animal Crossing as a barometer for how the gaming landscape has changed. The F-Zero series is a highly technical, skill dependent series, which can alienate a large number of people. Just look at all the normies on YouTube complaining about how difficult the game is, even on easy. Now look back to Animal Crossing, which is the closest thing to an anti-game that exists. It's not skill exclusionary partly because there's not a whole lot to do, and no reason to develop a skill. And yet, ACNH is one of the Switch's best selling games and most profitable, if not *the* most. There is no reason to even bother with a niche franchise, it can live on by having C Falcon in Smash or ripping assets for Mario Kart. It's a parts car now.
