Howard Lincoln's exit from Nintendo was a big blow to their working relationship

Bait thread.

Are there interviews about this? I bet MS didn't encourage the same kind of atmosphere. rare in their prime was putting team against team in direct competition. Maybe that died out. Might explain why they ended up with so many underwhelming releases that took forever to come out.

Deciding to cuck themselves to Nintendo.

Rare's best days were on the Speccy.

Most retarded decision Nintendo's ever made.

Rare I guess, Treasure just stopped doing anything of value, Rare were sucking cocks for 15 years and then released that water tech demo and charged 60 shekels for it

>> No.8122372

Nintendo severely undervalued their third party talent like they ALWAYS do
There is zero reason for Nintendo to have let Rare and Square slip away.

Treasure was never good. Just the talentless dregs of Konami.

Rare used to be good, but got corrupted over time by Nintendo.

Making Star Fox Adventures a Zelda clone instead of a reskinned Jet Force Gemini sequel but with less bullshit collectathon elements and better Arwing sections.

I think they just had trouble adapting to the emerging AAA production cycle. They were masers at cranking out AA games, 11 releases in the N64's lifecycle and most of them are great.

>> No.8123304

I'm tired of having this thread and explaining this to others, so I'll summarize.
>Rare became notorious for having games go overbudget and behind schedule (Conker's Twelve Tales, Banjo-Kazooie, Dinosaur Planet, Perfect Dark)
>Rare employees were leaving en masse to create and join their own studios (Free Radical Design)
>Rare needed too much creative control assistance from Nintendo to stay on track otherwise they would keep adding features and never release anything
>Chris and Tim Stamper were already looking to sell the company before Nintendo's stake was up
Nintendo has made a lot of question decisions sure, but I usually trust Hiroshi Yamauchi's judgement.

Otherwise it's ok I guess. Not as fun as sega or ps1 but some games are ok

They both became shit in the 2000s, but I guess Rare since they became immediately shit after leaving Nintendo, whereas Treasure still had a gem or two in a sea of mediocrity.

i never got why people put rare on a pedestal.

i don't like platformers, their FPSes played better on platforms other than the original hardware and the best KI game wasn't even made by them.

The AAA video game era produced almost nothing of value.
