I’d say dbz budokai 3 is probably the most fun I’ve played. Didn’t like the others as much and never played Lains game. The ps2 fullmetal alchemist games were alright too.

Played it for 30 minutes then I just looked up the cutscenes on YouTube because I really couldn't be bothered with the slow ass UI or the therapist's audio diary. It's okay but it feels completely different from the show, which is far superior. Even then the show is good at best. I don't think Lain is amazing or anything.

I honestly don't get why people like anything related to Serial Experiments Lain. The anime itself was incredibly boring and barely made sense. Even after I watched a video explaining the story, it was still incredibly boring and uninteresting. From what I've heard about this 'game,' it seems boring af, too. I really wish I understood why. Whenever I read people's explanations as to why they liked it, I always see the same things- aesthetic/atmosphere, 'philosophy'/"it made me think" etc. Granted, I saw it years ago, but from everything I remember it just didn't seem all that deep. It represents a lifestyle that waa very under-represented at the time and even today, if a mainstream product comes out they don't really get it and aren't accurate in their depiction but things like Lain or Welcome to the NHK or whatever are made by people from those lifestyles so it's 'real'. For me its Ghost in The Shell for PSX and PS2, both are good games with awesome soundtrack.
I like Lain, but the game doesn't do that much for me, there's nothing much to do in the game, the cutscenes are interesting but the message is the opposite compared to the anime.

I think one of the things people don't like about SEL is that it doesn't add up to some greater conclusion even though there are some episodes where it seems like it's going to, so people say they don't get it when there isn't really an overarching "it" to get and if you try looking for one you'll be frustrated. It's more about showing you different things about technology affecting people and archetypes that were emerging as socializing moved online in the mid 90s. The example I like to point to is the delivery man who is genuine and enthuastic in his love for computers but not advanced enough to be aware of the larger happenings with the Knights. There isn't a greater purpose to him being in the show, it's just depicting something that might be familar to you. The entire series is full of complete disregard for Chekov's Gun like that. I like this kind of slow paced, meandering style of fiction and it's one of the reasons I like anime in the first place since it's somewhat more common in it.

I personally think Lain has broad enough appeal that there should be something for most people. Just what will stop a lot from really enjoying it is its very slow pacing and intentionally weird plot structure.
