Hey there /vr/. I'm the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. Currently, the hack is close to being completed, but we're still in need of people to help bugtest and play through all the levels. I'm posting here rather than /v/ because this board moves a bit slower, and there isn't as much concern about the Thread being bumped out before it's too late. Other people who helped with the project are likely to post here, but you're welcome to help as well! We're still in need of some Art and Music for the remaining game content, but all the levels are now completed.

Feel free to use the thread for discussion on the project and the few works-in-progress that need to be taken care of before release.

>ROOM 1 (Cosmic Clones Room)
You can spin jump on the bomb explosions. Not a major issue.
>ROOM 2 (Disco Shell Room)
Level itself isn't that bad but it really fucking suffers from the retry every two rooms gimmick. Disco Shell hopping is hard enough as is. Its fine because its the final level but man is it rough. Then again it would be even worse if the room order was reversed.
>ROOM 3 (PolandBall Can Space Room)
The messagebox sprite is still in the level and needs to be removed. It deletes the UberASM effect for the level. Also there is a piece of line/rail at the start which isn't conntected to anything and should be removed.
>ROOM 4 (Item Room)
Nothing to say, its a very solid room.
>ROOM 5 (CandyChau+Green+Paint level)
Holy fucking shit this level is a fucking clusterfuck. The fucking HatKid Fishin Boo I can take or leave, bumpers being RNG is a fucking annoyance but the section at the end always fucking changes because of the sheer number of sprites on screen. There is a bouncing section of munchers at the end between the Desu's. Remove them please.

Well, it doesn't seem like there are any more (known) audio bugs, so I'm gonna go ahead and post the fixes. I included some quick instructions inside the zip file for applying them.

Here's a list of what was fixed:

- Pause no longer makes the notes sustain infinitely.
- If the 100 second speed up happens in a level, it will no longer transfer to the overworld and back to the level.
- Added back Mootboy's walking SFX to slot 31 (it's unused in the Base ROM so it should be okay, but I also included instructions in case that specific slot is needed for something else).
- Fixed said SFX so it uses the correct instrument.
- This also fixes the crashes in the level that were present in previous base ROMs.

If anything else music/audio related comes up, feel free to reply to this post and I'll see what I can do.

/v/1 only only has a few kaizo levels. Its difficulty is more or less what you'd get from a typical collab hack
/v/2 is overall more difficult. Really demanding alot from you. There are alot of roadblock for beginners.
/v/3 is hard to judge, alot of levels feel easier than /v/2 but harder than /v/1 and then there are the good handful of levels which end up being harder than /v/2.

Hey I completed SOUL JUNGLE secret exit and the normal exit, but the path to 1D (march of the mootykins) did not show up.

Also the mushroom in the last room of Key Below the Door is some HORSESHIT man, thing goes left sometimes, sometimes it goes right. A real fucking kick in the nuts that level is.

oh ALSO theres a really epic door in key below the door that takes you to the bonus room. one of the purple ones. this fucker. I imagine it's because it's on the edge of the screen. Also when I moved it there was another door behind it. Then I tested one on the edge of the screen and they both worked fine. Then I moved the door back on top of eachother on the edge and it works fine. yeah that does seem kinda fucked. When I completed it the normal way first, I went down to KbtD. Then I did soul jungle's secret way. When nothing happened I thought maybe I needed to do enchanted midnights secret first, which took me to march of the mootykins. completing the normal exit of enchanted midnight took me to soul jungle, by the way, if thats intentional or not i'm not sure but it seems weird that I would have to do midnight's secret exit to go the "normal" path, that is the path that leads to the castle.

tl;dr soul jungle normal leads to key below the door, soul jungle secret does nothing, which is obviously bad, enchanted midnight normal leads to soul jungle, enchanted midnight secret leads to march of the mootykins, which seems off.

Skimming through this and seeing this level again it reminded me, I don't think I ever shared how this level got fixed with the general thread.

Basically, erik's dogshit triangle code completely fucks the game sideways by altering the wallrun collision check to be as lazy as possible. Mario will no longer check the proper solid state of the blocks he's running on, just if their map 16 "act like" value is a valid solid or air block. So instead of using normal on/off blocks, we have to use custom on/off blocks that change from act like 25 to act like 130 and back depending on if they're currently solid or not. With how SMW works, blocks can only do this if they're being interacted with (either by player or by a sprite). So we just swap em out and when you run up the wall, you'll interact with them and they'll change as you go right? WRONG. You don't interact with the blocks on the wall as you run up them, so even doing this by itself won't fix the issue.

So how do we fix it? First I had to modify one of the existing sprites, the XY follow sprite, to be able to accept a extra byte that would allow sprites to follow X AND Y instead of the normal X or Y. Then I had to make an additional custom sprite, which was basically an invisible/un-interactable dolphin. I then position four of these dolpins to spawn in precise positions around the player at the beginning of the level so that no matter what direction the players interacts with blocks from,the dolphins will interact with those blocks FIRST during a wall-run, updating the blocks, and allowing the proper wallrun mechanics to work. So essentially, Cwitch Palace was saved by four invisible dolphins. Fuck erik btw.

I looked back, it's actually a bug with the portable triangle. You can briefly phase through 1-tile wide blocks and climb up walls two tiles away by precisely jumping into the triangle. After experimenting, adding a fifth dolphin can mitigate this a little bit because it'll force collision to turn on earlier in fringe situations. I'll send the updated version of the level to OP.

Temporary Temporature: Due to the camera position, you'll die if you start the level with a powerup
Defiance: The camera keep scrolling to the right in the midway area, the invisible objects on the top right should be removed
Sadist course EX: Boss is broken. I suggest to rework that boss entierly to make it more fun
Booster Mountain: very minor but in the first area you can see some cutoff if you die to the spikes next to the saw and don't press retry
Overworld: The special world palette activates after beating level 125

indeed. got through Fort Harmony, very good stuff, and it had a checkpoint right where needed. the robot unicorn boss was quite good and challenging too. however, there was a minor issue -- when taking a death in the rising lava area, the screen would scroll way down and you'd sometimes see random objects in the lava (which would cover the screen). very minor, but this may be worth tweaking.

I got to the storehouse, I should've known there'd be a bunch of troll items there. it reminds me of umihara kawase. good use of sprites there too.

world 1 down (although I may go back for secrets). just confirmed that the save system works fine. I'll pick this up later.

that puzzle at the end of 1 in the stink was pretty good, took me a minute to figure it out. I've advanced to the spooky level, diggin the cacos and warios. however, the trees in the foreground cover the sprite here, which leads me to believe that the cloud glitch mentioned above is genuine.

First you start by selecting which drive you want to open (F: for example)
Then you just add / after every folder until you get to the folder with the hack and the graphics in them.
For example:

The problem with expanding it is that Lunar Magic will say the GFX file is too large which might result in gameplay glitches or something like that. So here is one of the GFX files opened in YYCHR. The top half of the file is what is used in SMW, but the bottom half will not be loaded ingame. For this example I had to use 2BPP GB to have it show up properly but you normally want to work in 4BPP SNES/PCE(CG). If you press yes, it will also include the bottom half of the file which makes the filesize bigger than normal. It changes from 2kb to 8kb after doing so, which takes up more space. If you press no it will update the modified sprites in the first half and the GFX file will stay 2kb.

You can also load the palette that is being used in the hack. To do this you have to click on Palette > Open RGB Palette (*.pal)... and then select global.pal.

The best thing to do in that case is to open up a second YYCHR with GFX00 showing and compare both files so you can spot which tiles were used by Mario and which were deleted for the hack.

As for the bottom half, it's best to wait and see if someone could answer that question or else you're doing it for nothing if it can't be done in the hack anyway.

the bottom half is 'used', its just loaded from a different file.
The pictured file is GFX28. It's loaded in to vram, immediately followed by GFX29. The Layer 3 tiles are supposed to be 2bpp, so theyre 2kb each (0x80 tiles is 128 (8x8) tiles, times 2 bits per pixel = 2048 bytes)
the 4bpp ones (the rest of the main graphics) are 4 bytes per pixel, so 4kb instead.
4bpp graphics are added by lunar magic, the original game used 3bpp graphics, so only had access to 7 colors + transparency.

if you save the file and its too large, it seems to overwrite other (non-vram) areas of memory.
I think this has to do with how lunar magic handles uploading the graphics files (they must have sizes stored with them instead of specific slots only uploading the 'correct' size)

my suggestion is to make this wall different, concave or sloped inward maybe, to make it clear to spazzes like me that it's a mid-air jump, not a wall jump (the second jump seemed difficult until I figured this out).

can confirm, key enemies can despawn on rougeport sewers. I concur with the testing sheet's suggestion to add retry doors to solve this; either that, or fix whatever causes the despawn.
