No, in fact, it's the opposite - it's way too kid friendly. Remember it was the nineties, Japan loved (and they still do) kawaii stuff and these kinda games sold just as good as high-octane action titles for SFC like Gradius, Contra or Assault Suits Valken. Meanwhile in the US, a game like Magical Pop'N would be called downright childish or girly game for kindergarten kids. Only the TOTALLY RAD stuff mattered at the time, which isn't very different from the late eighties and late NES library. Maybe it could have sold, or maybe not, but for the potential US publisher that was way too much risk of the game flopping in the region. Nevertheless, it's a very competent SFC platformer with a steadily rising difficulty curve and I absolutely love the fluid movement of the main character.
