Id say its the best fps on the saturn which isnt saying all that much. Its no goldeneye or perfect dark though. Maybe on par with Doom 64.

it's a decent metroidvania fps and it's notable for beating metroid prime to the punch by about 6 years
once the remake drops and more than two people play the game you'll know for sure

It's really good. Great level design, encourages you to think in new ways, tons of secrets. There's not really a bad part of the game people can groan on. No inconsistent level design like doom 2 or overpowered SSG, no pointless weapons at all and creative and unique level design.

PowerSlave EX is the PSX shit. The remake is also PSX shit. You can clearly see that in the video they released showing the inferior PSX levels.

Powerslave is solely the original Saturn version, it's the only real version of this game. Proper gameplay, physics, grenade jumps, actual full levels, more geometry, higher complexity, full range of power ups, the aiming actually locks on to flying enemies, Death Tank and much more. The game and its game engine were entirely made from scratch for Saturn, so is this even a fucking surprise that it has everything. The PSX port is severely gimped because its game engine is far less capable and Powerslave was designed for Saturn's hardware. They had to remove tons of stuff.

Then years later a fucking brainlet ooga booga nigger made Powerslave EX based on that massively inferior port because "muh nostalgia. ps1 gud. shiturn bad".

Now the lazy incompetent Night Dive dev cunts simply use that gimped EX shit as a base instead of basing the remake on the actual original and good version of the game.

PS targets 60 fps but can drop all the way down to 20 where as Saturn targets 30 fps with drops to 20

Mednafen/beetle emulates it very well. Last I checked that emu was the only way to avoid issues but Kronos has come a long way so maybe that will work too if you want to play above native resolution.

No, there is no source port, just bugged and unfinished recreation of PSX version, which is suboptimal to say the least.
There is a remaster based on it in the works, but it's not that big of an improvement by the looks of it.

the saturn version is the most unique because it plays up the metroidvania "get new ability to unlock new path in old area" thing the most. the PS1 version mitigates it a lot and the PC version is a completely different game, an Egyptian duke nukem mod
