What are some things people flipped out about back in the day but you just don't have the memory of being frustrated by it?

Admittedly maybe I was a little older than most people when they had to put up with this shit (I didn't play this until it was on GameCube so I might have been more patient by that point in my life) but I don't have longstanding memories of this dungeon completely ruining my mood.

yeah I never got the reputation the water temple had, I had played the game several times in the 90s as an 8 year old. I never thought much of the water temple just that it was "long." It wasn't until later on that I realized it was just really tedious and boring. It's the peak of everything wrong with ocarina's design and it embodies "that part" of a game.

If I played Water Temple all in one go I never had a problem with it. What I do remember is that in several cases I would take a break from the game and every time it would happen to be half way through this dungeon. For some reason when after picking the game back up I would forget what I had and hadn't done which would make me wander up and down back up again trying to figure out where I left off. I haven't had this happen for a decade though.

Water levels in most games are difficult and/or emotionally scarring. The "drowning music" from Sonic makes me panic every time.

"dweeby?" not sure how you're intending that word but he is at no time portrayed as an "unattractive, insignificant, or inept person." nor is he geeky or technical. i wouldn't call him "emo" but he is definitely more on the brooding silent side. that's a character trope that far precedes emo though. the rep probably comes from the emo-style hair if anything, which was probably copied as much as it copied from. at any rate i never heard any complaints about him, we didn't care about shit like that when we were tweens, "emo" was barely on anyone's radar.

Animal Antics in DKC2. For some reason people go apeshit over the Squaks section. It's pretty easy if you are patient.

Seriously every e celeb that ever reviewed this game hates this level.

Never had a problem with tank controls, they just mean that movement is relative to the character's vision instead of the camera. It's 1st person being displayed on a 3d person view. It's objectively better if you have pre-rendered fixed camera angles because otherwise you need to reorient yourself every time the screen changes. Ironically I find Tatl to me pretty grating in MM due to her more obnoxious jingle sound, and I personally say they made Navi worse in OoT 3D because they effectively placed a flashing "NAVI" text at the center of your screen any time she wants to tell you something.

That's pretty much everything in this last thread. You'll notice on this site that if someone doesn't like a part of the game, someone who likes the game tries to twist the argument to it being too difficult rather than boring or irritating. This kind of strawmanning is all too common here.

This includes the water temple. I've never seen anyone call it hard, but I've seen a ton of people calling it unenjoyable.

They made her slightly better in the Switch port. Still objectively worse than Link's other companions but less bad than the OG Fi. I think it's the fact that the game slows down to load her model, she has to physically pop out and she does it to remind you every time of basic plot that you were just informed of a minute or two ago. With the fairies, sure, they'll pop up and say shit like "HEY! PRESS THIS BUTTON TO DO THIS THING YOU DID A THOUSAND TIMES ALREADY!" but it's just text on the screen, you can quickly skip it and then they'll leave you alone for a while.

It's kind of hidden from plain sight when you walk into the room so I would always forget it was there and just turn back around. Then the second time this happened all I could remember was that there is a "door" I always miss, so I'm going around looking for a door instead of a hole in the ground I had already opened up months before. Then of course when I restart the game I naturally walk right up to the trap door when I get to it. This is why this dungeon puts a bad taste in my mouth, but I don't really think it is the games fault lol.
