Vanilla CoD was worse with the forced savescumming with all those car/turret sections that were dice rolls on whether you would just die or not.
also WHY THE FUCK WERE THERE NO HEALTH KITS ON VETERAN

Other than those sections, the game was mostly smooth with its checkpoint system.

I loved both the main game and it's expansion, and I'm sure I beat both more than 20 times each. Thing is, I grew tired of this saga by Black Ops, or even earlier... Don't know if it was me or the campaings turning to shit, maybe both.

it's more franchise fatigue than anything.

the last time i really got excited for a COD game or was genuinely interested in one was when they started doing the sci-fi stuff but the CODkiddies hated those games because they can't into verticality and can only think in two dimensions.

zombies is fine but it really should be it's own game at this point with how much work goes into it and i wish we got a return of spec ops or extinction instead. and i wouldn't care about multiplayer if it didn't have bots.

Autosaves are pretty lenient for easier difficulties, but FUCKING HELL did the game made me fucking loathe the hitscan enemies in fps games in general.
Also, turret sections are just a death wish - you stand in one place and the fucking flash from the thing blinds everything and you can't even see where you are aiming.
I seriously doubt the game was tested at all for the hardest difficulty, because you might as well map quicksave/load to the LMB and RMB and reload each time you get unlucky enough to catch a bullet.

How does Call of Duty compare to Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault?

Things I hated about MOH:AA
>too much babysitting, half the times either you're babysitting one or several people worse, you're the baby
>getting sniped by enemies miles away, sometimes beyond the draw distance so you literally can't see them
>some levels that are huge empty spaces of nothing

Spearhead also focused WAY too much on those and on scripted shit. Thank god Breakthrough didn't and that one was really fun.

I'm a sucker for ID Tech 3 though. Should I play CoD or is it also full of the shitty tropes of the 00's (AI parterns, scripted events, huge levels of nothing, getting sniped from 200 miles away etc)?

Back then what blowed me away about the first COD was how much better it controlled than MOH.
The combination of ironsights, leaning, and going prone (more specifically jumping into prone), made it feel so much better compared to Allied Assault and Frontline.
