/vr/ - Retro Games

I think both those games are overrated, but yeah, MGS gets blown out of proportion, but it seems like the trend lately has been to suck off Resident Evil in its stead.

I like both.

I know how important it was for the industry and how it progressed interactive narratives. But as a game, I simply can not play Half Life no matter how hard I try. Frankly, I don't see how anyone can.

Doom II seems like a big step down from the first game to me. The level design is not particularly good and full of too-gimmicky levels. The new monsters are all really annoying. There should have been more than one new gun, and they shouldn't have given you the SSG so early.

Not sure why so many people put it on their "best game ever" top 5, it's definitely a "for its time" kind of game. For its time its control scheme was revolutionary and brought a kind of control to combat that other 3D games of the time completely failed at, now it's pretty basic. For its time, the immersive narrative was captivating, now that kind of stuff is standard.

Super Metroid, alttp, Goldeneye, OoT, Yoshis Island, Nights are all mediocre games not worthy of the praise they receive.

I don't get the hate with mgs. While it's gameplay isn't as good as Splinter cell what exactly was bad about it? Snake was a bad ass.

The soijak is excited about MGS because he's low T. I have a friend that looks exactly like the soijak who's a huge Kojima drone but thinks Thief is boring and could barely play it.

Half life 2 never had anything great compared to other shooters even WW2 games. Now Crysis 2 was awesome.
