This is a great game. I played the GBA games and DoS, and I still prefer SotN to them. It has something they don't. It has more soul. Better music. They add new shit like the soul system, but the core of the game is the same fucking thing, enemies are the same, biomes are the same, weapons are the same, powers are the same, it's like playing the same game over and over.
CotM and HoD feel different, at least, and you play as an actual Belmont in HoD.

I will never understand this sentiment. Aesthetically, sure, Juste, Maxim and Lydie are damn similar to Alucard et all and their SoTN designs, the save room, really the environments in general. The actual gameplay, on the other hand, is more distinct from SoTN than AoS and the DS games which were basically SoTN but refined, save for maybe, just maybe OoE. Juste's handling compared to other protags is this weird amalgamation on the cusp between old vania and new vania, and the rest of the game is designed around that.
