Hey there /vr/. I'm the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. Currently, the hack is close to being completed, but we're still in need of people to help bugtest and play through all the levels. I'm posting here rather than /v/ because this board moves a bit slower, and there isn't as much concern about the Thread being bumped out before it's too late. Other people who helped with the project are likely to post here, but you're welcome to help as well! We're still in need of some Art and Music for the remaining game content, but all the levels are now completed.

Good news. The sneedzoid boss is almost finished and Cancer will be worked on by the weekend. Overworld is done (sans ow events), and even levels without bosses can be beaten in some way.

I'm amazed there's so much contention over magma driver being dropped. I'm not even part of the group of people who hate it. I just think its a very meh level. Level design is boring, doesn't have any fun set pieces or style, difficulty is trial and error and has obtuse custom blocks.

I can't think of any other levels I would want dropped to make place for boss rush, all of the other levels in the hack all have that something. You can't remember the earlier levels because their difficulty has them in the perfect place. The middle ones all have a cool aesthetic or ASM gimmick and the end game levels all have a shit ton of sprite/music/gfx to remove without causing issues.

Even if MagmaDriver suddenly became the best level in the hack, atm its the only level which could booted from the hack with no hard feelings. Anons complained about it for fucking tons of threads

i found a bug in the peanut room of candy chateau
it looks like the cluster bullets can damage/kill moot while in the screen scrolling pipes. Since the pipe direction ram ($60) isnt cleared, you get stuck in a loop of dying over and over and have to start+select out of the level
i dont know why the bullets hurt moot while in the pipes, but the easiest fix is adding STZ $60 to the init portion of the uberasm for that room

I'm not the author of most of these levels, so I made sure not to edit the designs of the levels too much; the only big change I made was to the boss room in Sadist Course EX, so you actually have time to react to the block switching gimmick. Its the fucking song. The anon who made the port did it by a midi converter and didn't tweak any of the stuff. He's using the raw files spat out by the converter which has errors which causes the rom to crash when reading it. I don't know enough music knowledge to confirm what it is and I won't pretend that I know exactly what is causing it but I would have a guess the song trying to handle both the song samples and the sawblade/death music samples is too much.

I've just tested the latest baserom. I think I found a input that can reliably cause the glitch. It only happens at the beggining for me and is a bit hard to pull off. It also works on the checkpoint, only at beggining. The pole sound effect will also glitch sometimes.

The music seems to loop fine if you stay in place and I've yet to see it fuck up after the beggining. I noticed OP hasn't taken out the walksound.asm like I told him to, and all of those problems stopped after I took it out. I think I found the fix. I found that the music breaks if you jump immediately after starting the level. If you wait a while (I waited for the guitar part to start), the music and sound effects continue normally. I've had romhack ideas floating around in my head, but I never did sit down and make em happen. here's one idea, a magikoopa boss:
you'd be in a large square, surrounded by those yellow blocks on the sides and bottom (at least 2 layers of blocks for the floor, maybe 3). he would teleport around, casting spells and turning blocks into koopas. you would then have to stomp em and hit him with the shell (which would be discarded after a hit). you could maybe up the ante by having him warp around faster, or fire multiple shots.

What the fuck is up with Magma Driver? I understand that it is meant to be one of those hold-right-and-jump levels, but the jumps are so tight and there's no signalling (i.e. signs, coins trails, etc.). The background looks like ass, the music doesn't fit at all, and random tiles kill you. Magma Driver feels like it's specifically engineered to be biggest fuckheap in SMW history. Either it should be dropped from the hack (like Flappy Moot from /v/2) or completely redesigned by the author (like Forest Funland in /v/1)
