I was told this was a mario clone but when I played it, the physics weren't there, level design was mediocre to bad and it was short as a demo, was I memed? Is the 3DS game better?

I remember hearing about the series for the first time in the twilight years of Nintendo Power, and I was waiting for the DS game to release in the US. I was rabid for more 2D Mario since we had only just got the first New Super Mario Bros and it still felt like the drought for 2D Mario wasn't over yet ( feels like some people forget what it was like between SMW and NSMB )

The game never came and my first Giana sisters game ended up being the one on Wii U and it had this gay dimensional shifting mechanic and didn't feel like a Mario clone at all. I was so disappointed. Anyway, I tried getting Commodore emulator up and running with no success.

I also have the DS version as a rom on my R4.
